These noisy calls during courtship can turn a quiet riverbank into a very loud love concert.

The male starts courting by furiously weaving a nest while calling loudly to get attention
• He may build several nests at once so females can choose their favourite
• Females act like strict inspectors — they tug at the grass, shake the nest, and check the entrance
• If the female doesn’t approve, she may tear the nest apart herself
• Once approved, the male performs a fluttering display, flapping his wings and bowing
• A successful nest means the pair will mate inside or near the nest
