The AFRICAN WOOD OWL (Strix woodfordii)

"The African Wood Owl emerges after dark and usually calls soon thereafter, the calling continues for long periods and at intervals throughout the night, especially in summer. The call of the African Wood Owl is a rhythmic series of hoots (who-who, who-who-who, who-are-you) and the calls often alternate between sexes, when the young ones beg, they give a short wheezing call" - SANBI

It's not easy to spot an African Wood Owl although you can hear them call just after dark in areas like Steiltes (Nature Reserve), Barberton Road valley, Uitkyk forest areas and other dense forest. However this owl was spotted during hard lockdown, and again it perched on a private home's veranda. This is where we took this photo. We are sure our bird lovers will love it.
