Ever wondered where the Moon got its name?
What I found fascinating is that its name can be traced back to an ancient word meaning "to measure." Long before watches, calendars, or smartphones, people looked to the Moon to keep track of time. Its predictable cycle through the night sky helped mark the passing of days and months.
In fact, the words moon and month share the same ancient origin because the Moon was one of humanity's earliest ways of measuring time itself.
It's amazing to think that every time we look up at the Moon, we're seeing something that has quietly helped humans count the passage of time for thousands of years. 🌙⏳

This is not neglect at a hyena den, it is one of the most structured systems in the wild.

The young of the Spotted hyena are raised in communal dens where cubs are gathered in one central safe place while adult females spend long periods away scavenging across vast distances.

That’s why so many cubs appear together at once — what looks like chaos is actually clustering by design, not abandonment.

There is no constant adult presence at the entrance, but safety is built into the den itself, with mothers returning regularly to nurse.

What looks disordered at first glance is actually one of the most efficient survival systems in the wild.

The Sable antelope gets its name from “sable,” an old word for deep black, fitting the mature bull’s glossy, dark coat. That colour deepens with age and rising testosterone, turning him into a living symbol of dominance—where appearance alone can speak louder than action.

Even in places like Kruger National Park, they stay tucked away in woodland shadows… which is exactly why seeing one feels like something truly special, not an everyday sight.
