They say your whole life is laid out, and each step, you are clearing the path and leading you to where you are supposed to be – I believe this is my path. I didn’t just wake up and say “Let’s do photography”- everything I have done, or been exposed to has pointed me in this direction. I knew I had to follow my passion, whether or not I became successful, at least I would be happy. As a little gir
l, I always remember wanting my dad to film me or take photos of me. I’d jump in front of my sister, (so I had the lime light) and say “Dad, look at me! Take another one!” and flash my toothless smile at the camera. I guess you could say I’ve always had a love affair with the camera. The tables turned when I got a bit older, and instead of being in the photo, I wanted to be the one taking the photo (much to my mom’s dismay as I went through reels and reels of film of decidely pointless things) Arranging Barbie dolls had to be my favourite thing to take a photo of – and of course, Ken doll was always placed by Barbie’s side kissing her. Could you say this was my first mini couple shoot?! ;)
It was a natural progression for me to study Fine Art and major in my first love, Photography. I’ve always LOVED art – being able to take your mind off everything and get lost in your creativity. This is much like photographing moments & people, you get lost in the now and the moment & your creativity can flow freely.
2009 was when my life took this turn – I got my first DSLR & started to assist other photographers.
2010 was the year I decided to follow my dream. I had shot some weddings as a second photographer, and then it was time I shot my first wedding alone. It was terrifying and exhilirating all at the same time – but I was hooked. I jumped off the edge of the cliff & followed my passion to be a professional wedding photographer, and have not looked back once. I have a lot of people in my life, who have, along the way, inspired me, taught me, pushed me to be where I am today and many are still teaching me, inspiring me and pushing me. I am blessed with the work that I do, following my dream everyday.
