Ever taken a photo, KNOWING you nailed the focus… only to get home and it’s blurry? 😭

I’ve been there.

One of the biggest things I learnt early on is that blurry doesn’t always mean out of focus.

Sometimes your shutter speed is too slow. Sometimes YOU moved. Sometimes your subject moved. And sometimes, especially with big families or groups, your f-stop is simply too low.

I used to be so scared of pushing my ISO because I wanted clean images… BUT I’d choose a little GRAIN over a blurry photo EVERY time.

And with groups? Don’t be scared to increase that f-stop and take a few steps back. You want grandma in the back row just as sharp as the person standing in front.

These are the little things I learnt through actually shooting, getting things wrong and figuring out WHY.

And that’s exactly what I want to share here.

Want your photos to feel more expensive? Stop thinking only about the photo.

Think about how you present it.

The exact same image can feel completely different depending on the crop, negative space, colour palette and what you pair it with.

For this one, I used a simple black & white image inside a soft blue, vintage-inspired frame.

Nothing changed about the actual photograph… BUT the way it’s presented gives it an entirely different feeling.

As photographers, we spend SO much time learning how to take beautiful photos…

but learning how to present your work beautifully matters too.

Your Instagram feed, website, galleries, albums and branding all become part of how people experience your photography.

It’s finally time for a new chapter. 🤍

Zandalee Smit Photography has been part of my life for more than 11 years.

It started with a girl who loved taking photos and somehow turned into 1,000+ stories captured, weddings, lifestyle sessions, travelling to Europe with my camera, meeting the most incredible people and building a business I could only have dreamed of.

But somewhere along the way, my life changed too.

I became a Potgieter.
I became a mom.
And the dreams I have for my business started changing with me.

My love for photographing weddings never went away, and it never will. Those love stories have simply found a new home at Dear Bride, where Tayla and I get to create something incredibly special together. Dear Bride. / Destination Wedding Photography Team

And that left me wondering… what does Zandalee Smit Photography become?

The answer has been quietly taking shape for a while.

Dear Photographer.

A place for photographers.

A place where I can share everything I’ve learnt over the last 11+ years — photography, editing, business, bookings, client experience, social media, the mistakes, the lessons and all the things I wish someone had taught me when I started.

So, goodbye Zandalee Smit Photography. You gave me more than I ever could have imagined. 🤍

And hello, Dear Photographer.
