Some landscapes seem to slow the world down.

The Makgadikgadi Pans of Botswana are one of those places—a vast expanse of ancient salt pans where earth, sky, light and silence converge in ways that are difficult to describe and impossible to forget.

I'm honoured that a collection of my aerial photographs from this remarkable wilderness has been featured in an eight-page portfolio, Breathing Space, in Travel Africa magazine's latest edition (Issue 112), pages 94–101.

My thanks to the editors for providing a space to share this story from above.

I hope these images convey even a fraction of the wonder I felt while photographing one of Africa's most extraordinary landscapes.

Few places offer encounters like this. The visibility, the density of wildlife, the raw beauty of the reserve, and the sheer wildness of Botswana combine to create something truly special.

Photographing this leopardess and her cub over several days was one of those wildlife experiences that reminds you why people fall hopelessly in love with Africa. The tenderness between them, the patience, the watchfulness, the way the cub mirrored every movement of its mother. All unfolding in the golden light and open landscapes that make Mashatu so extraordinary for leopard photography.

Among the dust and shadows of the herd, a new life finds its footing.
Still uncertain on fragile legs, sheltered beneath generations of quiet vigilance.
One day, if fortune allows, this tiny calf may grow into one of Africa’s great giants — a creature capable of reshaping landscapes and stirring something ancient within us all.
To witness beginnings like this in is a rare privilege.

What does a leopard leave behind when it passes through?

This male paused at a shepherd’s tree and scent marked it — a message most of us would never even notice.

Out here, territory isn’t seen… it’s smelled.

Ever witnessed this in the wild?

If you go to Botswana and don’t do this… you’re missing out!

Just outside Maun is Elephant Havens — a place where orphaned elephants are raised and returned to the wild.

Interacting with these young elephants… it hits you. It’s powerful. Emotional. It stays with you - because you realise this isnt a zoo, and it isn't a show. Its real people doing meaningful conservation work, every single day.

If you’re heading to the Okavango — add this to your itinerary - not just as an experience, but as something that actually contributes
