van J. Studio For nearly two decades, I have lived behind a lens, not in a classroom. Based in South Africa, my work is the result of an eighteen-year secret apprenticeship. Observing the world from the outside, finding beauty in the overlooked, and capturing the cinematic tension of the everyday. My background is not one of academic theory, but of raw life experience. lows me to bypass the technicalities of the 'perfect' shot in favor of the emotional truth of the scene. My work exists in the liminal; the thresholds where we feel a sense of nostalgic recognition and a touch of unease. I create dream-like, cinematic scenery that invites the viewer not just to look at the frame, but to step inside it. These are memories recalled; moments captured in the quiet hours when the world feels suspended between a previous thought and a future event.

Hi, everybody.

A very happy Monday to you all.

From here on out, you'll be seeing (and may perhaps already have) some changes to the work that I create and share with you all as I explore the different ways and mediums, technologies, etc... which can be utilized to bring my ideas to (some kind of) reality.

I'll still be uploading photographs that I take/have taken from time to time, but the in-between will be filled with artworks I've created in collaboration with . Some of these new images will remain aligned with the cinematic style of storytelling that I like to use with my own photographs and some images will be totally out of the box.

Just wanted to check-in with you all and let you know that/why things are looking a bit different than the last few years here on my feed.

Anyway, I hope you're all doing super well and keeping safe.
