There’s something powerful about stepping out of your comfort zone—especially when it pushes your creativity to the edge.

Recently, our team at DMCP had the opportunity to produce the short film Taking a Breather as part of a competition sponsored by Nikon South Africa. With their support, we were able to work with the Nikon ZR, putting it through its paces in a real-world production environment.

What made this project particularly challenging—and rewarding—was the scale of the logistics. We travelled over 1,000 kilometres (Johannesburg to Matjiesfontein) from our production base to shoot the film, completing the entire production in just two days. Tight timelines, long distances, and high expectations—exactly the kind of conditions that test both your crew and your craft.

The result? A film we’re incredibly proud of.

A special acknowledgment goes to writer and director Annette Mostert, whose vision and storytelling brought Taking a Breather to life. This film stands as a testament to what can be achieved with clarity of vision, commitment, and the right collaboration.

Projects like these remind us why we do what we do—telling meaningful stories, no matter the constraints.

This short film was shot in the beautiful Wellington, in the Western Cape.
