Luyolo Leo Mafuna - Biography
Luyolo Leo Mafuna, also known as The Psamist, was born in Queenstown, Eastern Cape, and has a rich and diverse background. Growing up in various places, including Welkom in the Free State, Marshall Town and Parkview in Randburg, Gauteng, and the Eastern Cape, he has experienced a wide range of cultures and environments.
Leo's educational journey began with his Matriculation and extended to tertiary studies, where he pursued a Diploma in Hotel and Catering Management, Advanced Lecturing, Call Center Management, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Supply Chain Management. Additionally, he holds various international IT certificates, showcasing his commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
Professionally, Leo has amassed extensive experience in multiple fields. He has worked in Call Center Operations, served as a Company Secretary and Communications Specialist, engaged in Data Annotation and Analysis, and contributed to Supply Chain Analysis and Tender Management. He has held positions at companies such as Direct Channel Holdings, Metropolitan Life, MMI, Sanral through Call-force (where he transitioned to Electronic Toll Collection), Platinum Life, and the Department of Social Development. Currently, he is an employee of the Department of Social Development and an entrepreneur, managing his own company. He also has significant expertise as a Senior Key Accounts Specialist.
Leo is also deeply involved in the world of football. He is the Chairperson and Co-owner of Super Seven FC, a beneficiary of the Midrand Local Football Association under SAFA Johannesburg. Additionally, he serves as the current Secretary General of the Midrand LFA under SAFA Johannesburg. His football journey began in the Eastern Cape and has been a significant part of his life ever since.
In addition to his professional and football endeavors, Leo is a talented recording artist. He started his music journey at the age of six, voice coached by his aunt Ntemi Simanga, his cousin Zukiswa Simanga, his sister Gcobisa Patricia Mafuna, and Vuyani Solidaka. His favorite vocal partner is Buhle Swelindawo from Embekweni in the Eastern Cape. He featured in groups like Masiphathisane and King Messengers before embarking on his solo journey in 2006. He released his first album, titled "Malibongw' Igama Lakho," in 2006, which was recorded at Asterix Music and mastered and engineered by Neo Khumalo. Leo is a songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist, and his musical genre includes gospel with a touch of jazz and afro-pop.
On a personal note, Leo is a dedicated father of three. His daughter is in her second year at Fort Hare University, his eldest son is in grade 12 at Parktown Boys in Gauteng, and his youngest is a grade 1 pupil at Acts House of Education in Gauteng. Despite the loss of his mother last year, Leo remains close to his father and sister, who continue to be important figures in his life.
