"DOCUMENTING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS DOESN’T MEAN GIVING THEM CITIZENSHIP", MALEMA'S ARGUMENT EXPLAINED

Julius Malema and the EFF have repeatedly raised a position that many South Africans disagree with, while others believe it is being misunderstood.

Their argument is simple: you cannot control what you cannot count.

According to the EFF, South Africa first needs to know who is in the country, where they are staying, and how many undocumented people are here.

Their view is that documenting undocumented immigrants does not automatically mean granting South African citizenship.

Instead, they argue it creates a system where authorities can understand who entered the country, who is working, where people are based and how immigration can be managed properly.

The EFF believes the current situation creates confusion because nobody can confidently say how many undocumented immigrants are in South Africa.

But many South Africans hear the word "documentation" and immediately think: citizenship, permanent residence, or open borders.

That is where much of the disagreement begins.

The bigger question now becomes:

Should South Africa focus on deportation first... or documentation first?

📌 A major step to stop abuse of South Africa’s refugee system.

Under DA Minister Leon Schreiber, Home Affairs is closing loopholes that allowed people to repeatedly misuse asylum applications to stay in the country illegally.

After a Constitutional Court ruling supported tougher action, the changes will help reduce delays in immigration processes and strengthen the rule of law in South Africa.
