As a photographer, husband and father, not all outings are "let's get that shot", but rather where is it safe to park for the family, where can we pull over and have some coffee and hot chocolate and where can we stop and have fun as a family and where is a spot for that emergency bush wee? Snow hunting over these past couple of days was exactly the latter. It wasn't about getting great snow photos, it was about seeing snow, experiencing snow and cold, snow ball fights, building snow animals, and most importantly having some family bonding time in this beautiful country we call home.

Having some of the creature comforts always makes an outing better, like good coffee or the ability to make good coffee and hot chocolate, snacks, and a change or two of warm clothes.

Having just fitted the SmartCap kitchen it was time to test it out in the snow along with my very trusty AeroPress and also my newly purchased Decakila South Africa coffee grinder and man that coffee was great. And of course while we waited for the water to boil a snow fight took place. And then it was time to get driving again to simply see what we could see.

There are those events, that you sign up to as early as possible. This is one of them for me. Having covered the media for the event for the past four years and being privileged to witness the the transformation of the desert, from barren brown often grassless lands to lush green grassland and this year to having wet shoes from crossing the multitude of streams flowing after great summer rains. I may have missed the epic thunderstorms, but getting my feet wet in a desert stream is priceless. The Augrabies Falls Klipspringer Challenge is an amazing event, filled with passionate people. The event not only supports some local industries, but also contributes to conservation and supporting the SANParks - Augrabies Falls National Park. It's honestly amazing and very worthwhile. It's also family friendly and for those that love mountain biking, there are numerous bike trails to go enjoy as well. And you get to enjoy the beauty of the Augrabies Falls, one of South Africas natural wonders. SmartCap TrailRunning.co.za TRAIL magazine
