When the sunset is perfect... and your best mate is standing next to you. 😂🌅

Sometimes the best photographs aren't planned.

No posing.
No instructions.
Just two friends sharing another African sunset after a long day in the bush.

Those little moments—the laughs, the conversations, the friendships—are often the ones people remember most.

And yes... I may have interrupted the bromance for a few photos. 📸😄

Every picture tells a story. Sometimes it's just a really funny one.

Some images are stronger without colour.
Stripping back to black and white forces you to see what was always there — the texture of ancient skin, the weight of ivory, the pure joy of water on a hot Limpopo afternoon.
These were taken at a waterhole in the Greater Kruger. No filters, no setup. Just patience, good light, and an elephant that had absolutely no interest in performing for the camera.

This is what I'm chasing every time I pick up a camera — that laugh that can't be faked, that moment where two people completely forget there's a lens pointed at them.
A couples shoot in the Limpopo bushveld with two of my favourite people. The dry winter trees, the red earth, the golden light — there is no studio in the world that competes with this.

I recently spent a morning with a friend and her two dogs in the bush around Hoedspruit, and honestly it was one of the most fun shoots I've done. No studio, no fuss — just good light, a rocky stream, and two dogs with absolutely zero chill.
That grin in the middle frame? Completely unposed. That's the magic of shooting in a place your dog actually loves.

The family, the guide, the tracker — and one very memorable sundowner on the banks of the Limpopo bushveld.
This is what a bush shoot looks like when everyone commits to the moment. White outfits, champagne glasses, Coca-Cola cans, and a waterhole that's seen it all. No two shoots are ever the same out here, and that's exactly why I love it.

She knows exactly where she's going — and it's not out of your way.
There is nothing quite like a lioness on the move. Unhurried, unbothered, completely in command of every inch of the bush around her. The vehicle behind her isn't a threat. It's simply irrelevant.
Moments like this are why I pick up a camera.

These are the people standing between wildlife and extinction.
Every morning, somewhere in the Limpopo bushveld, men and women lace up their boots and march out to protect animals that cannot protect themselves. No headlines. No applause. Just duty.
The anti-poaching units of the Greater Kruger are among the most important and least celebrated forces in conservation. This is for them.

Ancient and unhurried. A white rhino rests on the red earth of the bushveld, unbothered by the drama unfolding in the sky above.
But look closer — the missing horn tells a quieter, more painful story. Dehorning is one of the measures reserves are forced to take to keep these animals alive in a world that still hunts them for what they carry.
To photograph a rhino in the wild is a privilege that future generations may not have. I don't take a single frame for granted.

There's something the African bush does to people — it slows them down, pulls them close, and reminds them of what truly matters. This family chose to celebrate that with champagne on the banks of a Limpopo waterhole, surrounded by nothing but open sky and the sounds of the wild.
From the sundowner setup crafted with care by the team at Makumu, to a stolen kiss in black and white — every frame told a story worth keeping.
This is why I photograph in the bush.
