Seed of a Geranium plant. Taken with a 60mm Nikon macro lens and stacked from 500 photos. The macro focus rail is a self-built rail suing 3d printer parts and an Arduino micro controller. Flash is a Metz CT60 flash I bought in 1987 and diffused with 2 layers of kleenex tissue.

Cape Canary (Kaapse Kanarie). Lifer for me. A bit of bird photography while looking for dragonflies. I use a Nikon 300mm f4 lens with a 20mm extension tube for dragonflies. This removes infinity focus on the lens. To get a bird in focus they have to be very close. You also have to pay attention when photographing these little yellow birds as you can easily mistake them for some of the other weavers you often see.

Male Juanty Dropwing (Vrolike Valvlerkie) taken at Lakenvlei Forest Lodge. First time since the lockdown that I had a chance to go look for dragonflies. Only half of the cabins were occupied.

Psychedelic Flutterer. Stumbled on this effect by chance. I was applying vignetting when I played with the "mode" of the effect and changed it from "normal" to "negative". When I slide the "strength" slider from black to white, the psycho colours changes.

I have seen this Butterfly specie before, but will have to go back to old posts to get the ID again.

Julia Skimmer (Juliaskepper) at Hazeldean/Retreat Estate, Pta. It was cloudy today and the flash helped to light up the foreground and darken the back. I wonder if there is a small and compact LED light that is on all the time. The flash gives me 2 frames of light (if the batteries are fresh) and then has to charge again - next few frames are darker then. A constant LED light will allow more control of the exposures.

Went back to a spot to confirm if a Damselfly I saw last week was a Slate Sprite or a Powder-faced Sprite. Found and confirm that it was a Powder-faced Sprite (Poeiergesiggie) I saw. Found 3 of them at a section of the stream with a lot of small & loose rocks. First time I find this Species at Hazeldean/Retreat Estate, Pretoria..

Saw this Broad Scarlet today. It kept rubbing his face with his legs. At home I saw that the right side of this frons has been damaged. Perhaps a bird took a stab at him? At Hazeldean/Retreat Estate Pretoria.
