I went 30nm off Cape Point, South Africa recently on a birding trip. We were privileged to see various albatross species, shearwaters, petrels and gulls.
It was an amazing experience to see so many birds up close in perfect conditions.

Since today is World Oceans Day I have decided to post this picture of a Humpback Whale lunge feeding to show the importance of conservation.
With most whale species on the brink of extinction in South Africa by the mid 1960's, whaling stopped in 1975. Over the past 40 years whale populations have made a steady increase and we are now fortunate enough to see events like this once again.
Ironically this humpback whale was photographed in front of an old whaling station in Fish Hoek.
