The hardest outdoor lighting is noon sun and mottled light. Highlights get too bright, shadows too dark. It's not ideal. Here I used two off camera flashes each at 45% to the left and right just to kill the shadows a bit but without losing the shadows entirely. Which do you prefer, black and white or colour?

As my own dog begins to stumble in her old age I'm so glad I have hundreds of photos of my pets. This client was going to immigrate and their gorgeous Lola was staying behind with friends. But last minute changes had them stay so I'm so happy these two will remain together.

If you are staying in Cape Town for Dec why not book a family photoshoot. Prices as follows...1 Hour - R1650, 2 Hour - R3000, 4 Hour - R5000, 8 Hour - R7000. But really one hour is more than enough to get dozens of beautiful photos that you will cherish forever.

We have some fantastic locations in Cape Town. But even a regular street can be a location. I keep getting told I undercharge but for now I am happy with my pricing. So if you have a clothing brand or small business consider getting professional photographs.

Own a BnB? People buy with their eyes. I guarantee shooting professional photos is the best way to advertise.

I know it's supposed to be hard work shooting kids but I find they are generally more relaxed in front of the camera which makes my life a lot easier. And you'll never regret documenting their childhoods. It can also be a fun experience for the whole family.

1 hour - R1500, 2 hour - R2500, 4 hour - R4000, 8 hour - R6000. An average sized BnB can be shot from between one to two hours.

I love black and white but my clients like colour so I shoot in colour. This was my favourite shot from a recent shoot. For once I think it was better in colour because the whisp of hair the wind took across her face is less defined in black and white. But I still like both. What do you think? Do you like the composition of this image?

It was shot with a 50mm lens and a speedlight off to the back right. No retouching other than going to my usual black and white. I shoot in colour and change it for my feed thereafter. Truth be told I haven't used a contrast filter in years but perhaps if I ever unpack my darkroom for someone wanting to learn the old school way they will get used again.
