Hi, and thanks for visiting my page. I'm Gavin and I'm located in Auckland, New Zealand. My photographic aspirations began in my early teenage years when I developed a passion for wildlife photography over in South Africa. These days I've added people to my portfolio with a special interest in cultures. I've been very fortunate over the past 5 years to be able to photograph a rich mix of cultural

diversity. Marriages ranging from a mix of Tongan/Maori couples, to German/Asian couples fully fledged Fijian family celebrations. These experiences has instilled in me a strong desire to specialise in the many varied ethnic groups that call New Zealand home. As I myself am of mix ethnic stock, I feel I have a good feel for what various groups like and want, and also have a strong sensitivity to the customs of different cultures. So I have dubbed myself the "cultural photographer"

I love hanging out at the Birkenhead Boat Ramp/Ferry Terminal while my laundry gets laundered at the laundromat...
Took my "big" camera with me on Tuesday night because iPhone imagery just doesn't do justice to my fascination with those bridge lights and the night city skyline.
First image shot with Automated White Balance
Second one shot with WB temperature dropped to 2500 degrees Kelvin, to get a moody blue effect, which I personally like. Sort of very fitting when one thinks "city blues"... Which I suffer from. Often!!😁

Took a drive over to Muriwai Beach today. Some tracks still closed due to the January 2023 storms, but the beach looks a lot fine… 😁👍🏻 👌🏻 (iPhonography)

Auctioned for $4.3million, making it the most expensive photo sold in recent years.
What I know about this photo:
Title - Rhein II
Its a river, with green grass banks
Shot with a large Format camera (these things can take a half n hour to set up, so that's whereat the cost must've gone)
Photographer's name is Andreas Gursky... (I think)
Trying to figure out why someone would pay so much for this, while quietly confident that a photo of my toilet with the lid down could be worth million.. or so.

Attended a Travel Photography workshop at Auckland Camera Centre this afternoon and was quite astounded that I was the only person who could identify the turquoise waters of the Hokitika Gorge. No one else (besides me and the host) has been there yet. Then, on the two hour mark, boredom set in and I started snapping the shop and my things on the floor… Good workshop though.
