Teen photography isn’t about posing or performing. It’s about presence. I choose to document teens as they are — raw, complex, in motion — rather than as they’re expected to be. My style is less about perfection and more about the in-between moments that often say the most.
When I was asked to photograph a matric dance pre-party, I had to pause. Do you know my style? Because if you want me standing at a backdrop saying “now smile,” I’m not your person. But they assured me they wanted the real moments. The nerves. The friendships. The quick glances, the awkward jokes, the wild laughter.
The raw edges of becoming. That’s what I see. Teens as they are—not polished, not performed, but alive in the in-between.
As We Are documents authentic life narratives across the full spectrum of human experience. This work moves beyond documentation to create space for recognition and remembrance. With care and intention, As We Are tells stories that matter—stories of who we are, as we are.
