Free Film School is back with a new programme, which will take us from Winter into Spring! Centred around our 2025 Production Mentorship, we'll be hosting our regular Saturday sessions, covering a range of different filmmaking departments - both creative and technical - starting Saturday 7th June!

Join us as we kick off the year with an Open Day at Bertha House!

If you’re a new or prospective participant, come meet our team, chat to our alumni, hear about our programme and what we’ll be offering.

And if you’re returning to FFS - you’re welcome too! Come catch up with the community and see what we have planned for the year.

Free Film School is open to anyone, no registration or application requirements. You just need to come through (on time!).

FREE FILM SCHOOL: Coming 2019

Free Film School is an alternative, free, film programme starting in 2019, proposed to take place across the Greater Cape Town area.

The programme aims to supplement the existing film education available in South Africa, as well as to offer an alternative, multi-disciplinary source of film education to aspiring filmmakers without access to existing mainstream institutions.

Prior to launching the programme later this year, we are running a series of screenings at diverse venues across Cape Town. The goal is to bring together interested filmmakers, students, artists, activists and prospective facilitators to discuss the content of the course and contribute to its planning.

In the long term, Free Film School aims on fostering a new generation of storytellers, empowered to make independent, sustainable and influential work that reaches its audience.
