Wilma having a lunch break. We that are able bodied persons must be thankful, to have that privileged to touch and eat with both of our hands. It bought me nearly to tears how Wilma shows her independence, of eating the way she knows best. Wilma a participant in " PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES". Photograph taken by Donavan Constant.

Benjamin Erasmus a resident of Steenberg, was involved in a train accident in 1991, at Retreat railway station and lost his left leg and right foot. When I interviewed him I was amazed about how he accepted his current condition, his happy and go lucky and warm towards other people. Although sometimes his teased by taxi drivers, that he must run for the taxi. Spending the whole day with him was for me such a joy, and myself learned a trick or two. Benjamin left school while he was in Grade 7, and has to provide his family with an income so that his sisters can complete school. He is always surrounded by friends, because they enjoy his company. He gave me insight about how he as a disabled person has to face daily. So if you ever find yourself around Shymphony Way , Steenberg look out for Benjamin sitting in front of his gate. Till next time cheers.

Wilma Du Plooy a resident of Retreat was diagnosed with meningitis at the age of 3, and wheelchair bound with polio. She is a go getter fun and happy go lucky person. She is employed at weekends working as a security guard for Poppy's Butchery, Main Road Retreat. Wilma's hobbies are art and puzzle building. Its for me a honour that Wilma is part of the project namely "PEOPLE WITH DISABILTIES".

Donavan Constant will once a week add photos of his current project namely "PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES". Please comment and respond with your input on how we as able bodied people can make a difference in these peoples lives. Clifford Witbooi, a resident of Steenberg, was born disabled without legs. He attended Astra Handicap Centre and was later transferred to Ocean View Handicap Centre till he finished his school. As a disabled person the only challenge he has is his height because able bodied people that can walk hardly notice him if he is on the ground without his wheelchair. Clifford was never in a situation where he was not accepted. He likes having fun and best of all still go to dance clubs. He is currently employed at Geradts Liquor outlet in Steenberg, Cape Town, where he is a general cleaner. His is very fond of animals. Feeding the birds and dogs are his favourite duties. Clifford does not see his disability as an obstacle but wants to show able bodied people that he can also do things independently without much assistance from others.
