Self-Portrait!
Fun fact!
The picture I used as reference was a very "fun" day indeed...
I just moved to Cape Town, I have Zero Dinero and I realized I have issues with my eyes.
I knew of a friend who got glasses for about R1200, so I decided it may take a curve in my wallet, but damn it, I have to fix this.
At Specsavers, I discover some interesting things...
-My eye color is only 1% of the world
-My eye stance is wider than normal (something like that)
-My pupils are not round as they should be (also something like that)
BUT my FAVOURITE fact of all was that because of all these things, the glasses I need would cost me a lovely R5500.
I did not have that.
So, I got other "helpful" glasses for R2200.
As I wanted to pay, my card declines.
And yes, paying for glasses is even scarier than ordering pizza.
I find out my limit is reached.
Shoot.
With a poor smile and jelly fingers, I try everything.
The eye doctor looks at me, laughs and says :
"I can see the panic in your eyes".
That sounds like a great slogan, Spec-savers...
We did an EFT and I awaited my glasses another week.
I paid the other half and MY GOODNESS I COULD SEE!
(Sometimes I take my glasses off because I have seen enough).
This genuinely felt like a mid-day crisis, but it was also a mid-day victory a week later.
And honestly, I want to give a shout-out to Spec-Savers Brackenfell employees.
I felt like they walked me through it and made it a lovely adventure!
This has been a difficult challenge!
Personally, while I would love to paint portraits, even drawing a person is quite difficult for me.
So, I decided to measure every little curve and detail until I feel like a crazy genius artist.
The struggle started however when I needed to swap from technical to art...
I couldn't get the colors right, it looked ridiculous and with all honesty, I lost hope.
But I started again and simply embraced it.
I feel very proud and motivated knowing I have done this piece.
