Little throw about my last exhibition - On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2026, Baracuta presents “Observing The Ordinary,” a photographic project by Federico Sorrentino, showcased through an exhibition at the Baracuta Store in Milan, located at Corso Genova 1.
Federico Sorrentino is an analog photographer whose work focuses on the exploration of light, color, and the presence of the objects that surround us. His practice is entirely film-based, with prints developed and produced personally in the darkroom, following an approach rooted in the tradition of manual processes, yet engaged with a contemporary visual sensibility shaped by the slow pace of color development and printing.
Color — a central element in Sorrentino’s film-based work — becomes the point of connection between his research and Baracuta’s identity: light, material, and tonalities come together to transform the space into a visual journey, where everyday English environments are translated into images, and the ordinary becomes narrative.
The project originates from a reflection on the everyday: the objects that inhabit our spaces often cease to be noticed. Through the use of color and the contrasts created by light, these common elements regain presence and reveal a quiet, understated strength.
The visual reference is the work of William Eggleston, the photographer whose approach established color as an autonomous language within documentary photography, where every chromatic choice becomes an interpretative act rather than a descriptive one. This is accompanied by a dialogue with Pop Art and the work of Andy Warhol, in the intention to assign symbolic value to ordinary objects, transforming them into subjects of visual investigation.
Within this context, the collaboration with Baracuta takes shape. The G9 Harrington Jacket — a garment with a strong historical heritage — is produced in 15 colorways, becoming over time an everyday object that transcends trends, capable of evolving without losing its distinctive construction and identity.
