May has arrived! With the recent fire in mind, a tribute to the chopper pilots who risked a lot to try and save houses, wildlife and vegetation. The chopper was flying around Noordhoek area and the landscape is the Elephants Eye and Silvermine Nature Reserve which is now black and this beautiful vegetation is gone. It will regrow but take years to do so...

My second attempt at the Dwarf 3 stacking - this time of the moon tonight. Taken through a double glazed door - inside - due to the excessive wind. I am very impressed by this super telescope. Works as advertised - and some. Cropped and very slight sharpening.

The whales are hanging around Simonstown harbour today and have been for a few days. One fellow was having a ball out in the bay - breaching much to the delight of everyone on shore. Pity about the people who go out in boats and illegally track the whales... Obviously a shoal of small fish in the bay as well as the birds (by the hundreds) were feeding much better. As were the whales I guess.

This morning in False Bay - the whale watching boat was out with a bunch of people viewing the whales that are currently in the bay between Simonstown and Glencairn beach. I wonder just how much these whale viewing boats bug the whales - must be disturbing to have a boat buzzing around above and next to you. Also out was the warships of India and Russia and presumably SA. Busy day in the bay.

October is here - already! Feel free to download the pics for your PC desktop. The landscape is the Oregon coast where we spent a few days in July. The aircraft was taken in 2006 at RIAT when I still had my Canon 500mm lens. What a lens that was!

1 May means a change of desktop calendar for those who would like to download either one. The aircraft was taken in 2006 at Flying Legends if my memory serves me correctly - The Utterly Buttery team (as they were known back then) and the landscape is in my back yard - Noordhoek Beach - all 7 kms of it.
