“I became a teacher because I love the energy and joy that young children bring to our lives and I wanted to be surrounded by that everyday. I also recognise that our country's education system is seriously lacking in most areas of learning. Although, for now, I can not change the education system at large, I may be able to impact even just one child's ability to learn and grow and that is enough for me right now.

There was not one particular moment, but rather a number of people who played crucial roles in my childhood. I had incredibly strong, smart, and kind teachers throughout primary school who made those years very memorable or me. I knew from a young age that I wanted to be the same kind of role model for other children one day.

The teachers that I currently work with are amazing in the classroom, and I am learning so much from them everyday. Seeing the impact I have on some of my students also inspires me to do even better with the following year's students.”

“What drives me is to achieve the freedom to live the lifestyle I envision for myself and my family and at the same time impact the lives of the people around me in a positive manner, which in the end will allow me to leave a legacy for those to come. A quote that has stuck by me is; “a man’s reach should always exceed his grasp”, which means that in order to achieve your goals, you will have to attempt to do things that seem impossible. I don’t think there was a moment that guided me on this path, I think I’ve always seen myself this way but a possible moment was when I was finishing my post grad and I realized that I was about to enter the big world where you didn’t have the support that you had during school and university. So I think it was a wake-up call to say now it’s time to begin your journey.” ⚡️

"The real test is not whether you avoid failure because you won't. It's whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere." – Barack Obama. I asked Luke for a quote that has inspired him and this one spoke volumes. Not only of his character but also his ability to push through. I have known Luke for well over 10 years now having played together on South Africa’s Ice Hockey Team since 2009. “Go on a lot of adventures to find yourself and figure out who you want to be,” Luke said after I asked him what advise he would give to his 16 year-old-self. The kid has a bright future! Stick around and you might learn something. ☀️☀️
