Met Gabriel a fisherman that lives in the Kleinmond informal settlement. Asked him to get me some crayfish, illegal of-course. Took a snap of him outside a shack near where he lives. Thought I might do a series on fishermen and their families - a single portrait. Which do you prefer? For me the black and white. One thing that irritates me about Facebook is that they flatten the tones on the photographs.

Over the last few months, we have been driving to the coastal hamlets on the South Eastern Cape. One particular river near the Kleinmond turn-off caught my attention. This time as we pass it I noticed the river had narrowed. The strangulation got my attention. One day the reeds from either side would join, I thought. The following day I went to take a snap. The weather wasn't perfect but what the heck. As I looked at the river I saw death. It needed life and perspective devices always bring life to a picture. So, I took a rock and threw it in. I think the concentric circles bring some perspective to the composition. It gives the viewer a reason to look. Heck, we've all seen a million rivers and mountains. Of course a 50 pound Yellowtail soaring through the air doing flick-flacks would have been nice; but the Atlantic Ocean is a dozen kilometres away. What do you think?

FRASERBURG is situated at an altitude of 1260m on a high Karoo plateau north of the Nuweveld Mountains. Rough population guess would be in the region of 300 whites and 3000 coloureds, maybe more proportionately.
