•A Walk, a Dog, and a Story in Kalk Bay•

Today while walking Thor down the winding streets of Kalk Bay, I carried my camera with me — just in case something interesting caught my eye. The town always has this way of revealing little moments, and today was one of them.
Sitting quietly outside a storefront, framed by peeling paint, rusted ironwork, and the sea air that seems to weather everything here, I noticed Mike. His presence had that timeless quality — like he had seen countless tides come and go, and each one left a trace in his eyes and lines on his face.
I stopped, introduced myself, and asked if I could take his portrait. He looked at me for a moment, as if measuring whether I was worth the story behind his gaze, and then nodded. In that instant, the light fell across him perfectly — catching the grit of his denim jacket, the quiet resilience in his expression, and the softness in his weathered features.
Mike told me little, and maybe that’s the beauty of it. He didn’t need to. His face carried the weight of years, of hardships and joys, of silence and salt air. What I took wasn’t just a photograph — it was a glimpse into a life I’ll probably never fully know, but one I felt privileged to witness for a brief moment on an ordinary afternoon.
This is Mike. This is Kalk Bay. This is why I always carry my camera.
