Fees Must Fall - Students March to the Union Buildngs.
In all the years of my photography, I don’t think I’ve captured a more significant picture than the one that opens this image set. These were the days where I had just started as a photojournalist, working with the incredible student newspaper , two weeks in and tear gas x rubber bullets - a baptism of fire some would say, having equally antagonised protestors and police that day.
I could write extensively on how things have changed since, and yet conversely, how the core things have remained the same…about how we witnessed the State respond to the needs of the youth with violence and so much about the role of legacy institutions within all this. About how we witnessed the youth of ‘76 criminalise their own children… and how we witnessed those same children unify - just for a moment and almost bring the nation to a standstill. And how this cry for “free, quality, decolonised education” has been sung for decades, and how it is still wept for.
A lot to say and dissect, but for today, I’ll just remind us of some of the images from the day.

“I'm not what anyone thinks I am. I never was. I didn't have the mouth to put it into words, to say what was wrong, to change the things I felt I needed to change. And every day it was difficult, walking around and knowing that people saw me one way, knowing that they were wrong, so completely wrong, that the real me was invisible to them. It didn't even exist to them. So: If nobody sees you, are you still there?” ― Akwaeke Emezi

~A Happy Memory~
Once upon a time, I was known as the guy who shoots "sunsets and afros"...I'm more than just that, but it kinda always made me smile.

I’m sitting watching the last rays of sunset leaving Helsinki as the westerly winter wind makes its presence known through the city tonight.
It’s one of my favourite continuous collaborations at work here -
Myself, , and …I don’t think we’ve ever missed the mark 🔥

"What is my favourite thing that studying has allowed me to do?
Apart from meeting the most incredible, grounding and integral people, studying has allowed me to self-actualise in a way that nothing else has. The realisation of my own potential and development of an appreciation for life and it's spectrums has been invaluable."

Congratulations on your new second degree in Agriculutral studies!
