Because this trip isn’t (just) about gorillas… even though gorillas at arm’s length is reason enough to go. Lions clashing in the shade of a tree. A leopard dozing on a branch. An emerald viper, motionless among the leaves. The shoebill, one of the rarest birds on Earth. Surrounded by a herd of 50 elephants. Rhinos playing in the mud. Chimpanzees at ground level, close enough to feel like one of the family.

Ten days, and we still didn’t get to show you everything. This is what a country that packs rainforest and savanna, predators and primates, the Big Five and species you won’t find anywhere else in Africa, actually looks like.

What’s the best trip you’ve ever done? Our answer is always “it depends”: it depends on what you’re looking for, because there are as many reasons to travel as there are destinations. But the most photogenic country we’ve ever visited? That one’s easy. Myanmar.

Every corner is a frame. The light is extraordinary at any time of day, the atmosphere unlike anywhere else, and the people, warm, generous, genuinely happy to be photographed, have a way of making every portrait feel like a gift.

We hope to go back soon. Since the military coup of 2021, Myanmar has been largely off the map for travellers, and the people who welcomed us so openly deserve so much better than what they’ve been living through. We think about them often, and we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a future that matches the beauty of their country.

I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a project called portrAIts, in collaboration with AISM - Associazione Italiana Sclerosi Multipla.
Through this project, I captured portraits of patients living with multiple sclerosis, and these images were then transformed using the power of artificial intelligence.
These portraits, alongside their AI enhancements, are currently on display until June 6th in two prominent public plazas: via Dante in Milan and piazza San Silvestro in Rome.
