One of my favorite parts of any family session? Stealing a few minutes with each kid on their own. 🖤

Group shots end up on the wall, but these individual portraits show who each child is right now, and they change so fast.

The High Line on October 2nd was the perfect backdrop: gorgeous weather, beautiful light, and the sweetest family. A few of these just had to be black and white.

My oldest son turned 13 this year.

Part of me is so proud of the teenager he’s becoming, and part of me feels the quiet ache of knowing the years he has left at home are getting shorter.

Lately I catch myself scrolling through old photos on my phone, wondering where the time went. How did he get so big?

So consider this your sign, from one mom to another: get in the photos with your kids. Not just behind the camera, but in the frame, with them. One day they’ll look back on this season and see your face right there next to theirs.

You’ll be so glad you did.

I’ve been photographing this family since before they were a family. 📸

Their engagement session in NYC. Their wedding in Simsbury. Meeting their first baby. And now — years later, both of us having traded the city for Connecticut — we’re back together for mini sessions in West Hartford.

This is my favorite part of this job. Not just capturing a moment, but getting to watch a whole story unfold, one season at a time.

Three years ago, this family reached out and asked if I’d come to their home for a longer session, since they had a brand new baby and getting out the door felt like a lot. Of course I said yes.

We hit it off right away. Turns out we both left NYC and landed in the suburbs, so we had plenty to bond over. 🙂

Now their daughter and little guy are the sweetest duo, and I get to watch them grow up a little more each year. We’re doing it all again for fall minis in October, and I can’t wait.

Some clients turn into friends. This family is one of them. 💙

Five years ago, I’d just left NYC and moved into a new neighborhood — still deep in Covid times, everything cancelled, and I was itching to get back behind the camera. So I offered my new neighbors mini sessions in my backyard, just to shoot again. A few said yes. This family was one of them — and they’ve been clients ever since. I love looking back at photos over the years like this; you really see how fast kids grow. Late Summer minis are back Sept 26 — link in bio.

“They’re getting older, I don’t need as many photos anymore.”
We tell ourselves that once our kids hit double digits. But here’s the thing — this age is just as fleeting as the baby years. The way she still leans into you. The way a forehead kiss still means everything, even when she’s almost as tall as you.
These moments don’t stop being worth capturing just because your kids got bigger. If anything, they matter more — because you know how fast this is going too.

Your kids are only this age once.

The way they lean into you, the way they wiggle instead of holding still, the little habits and expressions they’ll grow out of before you know it — those are the things you forget you’ll miss.

Four kids. One photo. 😅

This is what it really looks like behind the scenes.

I’m constantly adjusting, watching everyone’s expressions, fixing little details, and asking questions that get real reactions instead of forced smiles.

Every family is different, so there isn’t a script. Sometimes the best laughs come from the answers no one sees coming.

And then... somehow... all that beautiful chaos turns into the photos you see at the end. ❤️

Behind every image is a whole lot of movement, patience, and a photographer who’s listening just as much as she’s clicking the shutter.
