No matter where I go and what I encounter on my travels as a photographer and artist, there is nothing more peaceful than sitting down with the spoils of a great session, opening Photoshop and creating another world. A world that reflects a bit of the story that is affecting in this every-day-reality.

I call this one "How I Feel When I Read The News" ;)

This shoot, this artwork and the time invested is all for the joy of creating it. So why "waste" time working for free? Especially on something like photo-manipulation that is hard to learn and master? Shouldn't I be out there getting more paid clients?

This is the foundation of how I get more paid clients, because this is so much more than just a picture. It's storytelling - learning how to define the story, collaborate with the client to understand their part of the story. This is investment in Photoshop training so I can complete the art-making journey and solve the problems on my own, rather than pay someone else who doesn't know the story, doesn't know the feelings associated to it. This shows prospective clients that what makes my brand different from my competitors is not just pricing; it's the artwork itself and the person behind it.

This SHOWS my clients that the brand experience of Reality Reimagined is unlike any they've encountered before and worth their investment.

All of that fits into the photography genres of high-school seniors, weddings, headshots, maternity, children and so on. They all want a unique brand experience. They all want great, timeless artwork. They all want to share their story.

IT'S ALWAYS ABOUT THE STORY.

The work below represents most of the award winning imagery I've created over the past few years. This work is a living testament to not giving into doubt or fear, but listening to my heart and daring to continue to define the story. Countless hours of Photoshop creation, costume expenditures, traveling to Iceland simply to get stock images that fit the vision and the level of effort to submit my art for the chance to become Grand Award Winning.

This is how far I was willing to go, to fulfill my goals and bring my creativity to life.

Six photography sets with lighting provided, practical effects and heaps of creative opportunity. Exclusive time with each of the models (more than six will be there that day) so you can capture the images you see in your imagination. Opening the day with a deep dive into demonstrating storytelling, posing and lighting that I use to achieve all of the award winning work I've created. Plus an additional second day spent in Photoshop (via Zoom, as an add on to your ticket) where I will take you through every step of the editing process, from start to art.

THE OLDER I GET THE MORE SUPERGIRL IS MY HERO.

Growing up it was common to find me running around with a red bath towel pinned around my neck. If you've ever heard the story of my famous "flight" then you know that my dream was to be Superman.

I first learned about Supergirl from the 1984 movie starring Helen Slater. Soon there after I was reading Supergirl comics and learning about this character that had existed since 1959. She's been through several iterations of an origin story and eventually they landed on some foundations that stayed the same through all the incarnations of the character.

Supergirl, simply put, gets things done. She doesn't analyze decisions for too long - she doesn't let those that question her tactics/motives, deter her determination to see the job be finished. Superman will plead with the villain to change their ways - Supergirl just throws them through a wall.

If I had to chose a word to associate to these two powerful characters (that helped define parts of my personality) it would be Superman: optimism and Supergirl: determination.

That was the narrative that I gave to Blaire during our after-hours class at the recent Shutterfest photography conference. I had a custom suit made for her and I chose Blaire because she is a brilliant actor and I knew that she could take a little direction and run with it (or in this case, fly with it.)

One of the elements I often explore in all of my photography work is to respect, counterpoint. Blaire was the counterpoint to a previous session I captured with the remarkably versatile talent that Heather has. She can fly (like really fly airplanes) and on set she took the narrative and the character brilliantly.

Both of these ladies will be appearing in tutorials on the Photoshop Composite Series, with a few files that you can download and make the same composites I do or create your own original work. Coming full circle to the original passions that started my career, is the energy that I needed going forward in 2022 and beyond. There is something so powerful to see an image in the back of the camera and know that it's your skillset in lighting, the camera, posing that bring it to reality. Taking that image into Photoshop and completing the journey of art making is everything to me.

Join me for a Lighting Masterclass - a full day workshop where I will teach you my style of lighting, posing, creating story and how to capture artwork like this.

We'll learn the four lighting patterns that are applicable to ALL genres of photography and how to use their variants to create your style. We'll have four models, in four separate bays featuring a bride, high-school senior, portraits and fashion. Story time, gather around.

I just returned home from teaching at the best photography conference in the world: Shutterfest.

My photography background is in high-school seniors, weddings and general portrait work. I wanted to help folks tell their story through great artwork and build a business that was made up of the best of my wife and I. However, our original studio shut down in 2017 and Reality Reimagined became my primary focus.

My beginning Shutterfest experience as a student was about filling in the blanks of artwork that I didn't already do on a daily basis at home. So I started shooting fantasy, cosplay and the like, back in 2015. I became known for that work and it has lead me on a wonderful road of becoming an educator and showing others how to create the story.

This year I told myself that I was going to capture some classic, beautiful portrait artwork. No composites, no special effects - just beautiful lighting, posing and camera work that I could be proud of.

So it was an honor and pleasure to capture this image of Miranda during the demos I did for Intuition Backgrounds on Wednesday afternoon. Miranda, her wonderful mother Rachel Bourgoin Torrey and I have been trying to find a time to work together for a few years now. I think we did good?

Yeah. We did.

Long ago a wonderful teacher told me "a director is only as good as the cast they work with." I believe that is true (to a degree) in almost all forms of art-making. It's certainly true for this photographer when he works with Kat. She's truly remarkable and I believe it comes from the soul inside.

In this industry, in this specific genre of photography (bo***ir) we tend to judge the value of the subject by more surface elements that fit into the modern paradigm of "beauty." I still believe that it comes from the soul and the eyes are the first page of that beautiful story.

Thank you Kat for sharing that spirit with us all and I look forward to our next adventure.
