Why is discipline toward myself harder than discipline toward everyone else?

It's 6:00 AM.

The alarm goes off and I immediately get up to wake my son for football practice.

If I don't get him up, he'll be late.

If he's late, he'll be upset.

So there isn't even a debate. My feet hit the floor and I'm moving.

A few minutes later, I walk back into my bedroom and see my workout clothes laying exactly where I left them the night before.

A promise.

A promise I made to myself less than 12 hours ago.

And somehow, even though I was disciplined enough to get out of bed for someone else, I crawl right back under the covers when it comes to me.

Why is that so easy?

Because nobody is waiting for me.

Nobody is going to be disappointed.

Nobody is going to call me out.

Nobody is even going to know.

Except me.

And that's what I've been thinking about lately.
It's easy to be disciplined when someone else is counting on you. It's much harder when the only person you're accountable to is yourself. I've noticed that keeping promises to myself requires a different kind of strength than keeping promises to other people.

Because when you're fighting yourself, there's no clear winner.

One version of you wants the comfort.
The other wants the growth.

And every morning, one of them gets her way.

This week, comfort has been winning.

But awareness comes before change.

So tomorrow, we'll try again.

People often assume I create these spaces because I love sound baths, wellness, meditation, or personal growth.

But the truth is, I love watching people leave feeling better than when they arrived.

As a nurse, a photographer, a coach, and now a wellness experience creator, that has been the common thread through all of it.

There's something incredible about witnessing a shift happen in someone because they gave themselves the time and space to pause, reflect, connect, and breathe.

Watching that happen never gets old.

Isolation distorts reality.

As a teenager, I spent a lot of time alone. And when I was alone, I made up stories.

I imagined the popular girls all hanging out together after school. Doing each other's hair. Looking through magazines. Going shopping at the mall and buying clothes from all the stores I couldn't afford.

In my mind, they were confident, accepted, and having the time of their lives.

And me?

I felt like a loser.

The interesting part is that none of this was actually happening in front of me. It was a movie I created in my own head.

Because I believed those stories, I showed up to school feeling intimidated. Judged. Different.

So I kept my distance.

I didn't start conversations. I didn't try to get to know them. I assumed I already knew what they thought of me.

But was any of it true?

Honestly, I have no idea.

Maybe some of them judged me.

Maybe some of them didn't.

Maybe some of them were just as insecure as I was.

The point is that I acted as though my assumptions were facts.

My thoughts affected my actions, and my actions created the very experience I was afraid of.

They stayed over there.

I stayed over here.

And every day that passed seemed to confirm the story I'd been telling myself all along.

That's the thing about isolation.

It doesn't just make us lonely.

It can completely distort reality.

One of the healthiest things I've done for myself is stop letting social media decide how I feel about myself.

A post with 2 likes doesn't mean I'm less valuable.
A post with 200 likes doesn't mean I'm more valuable.
My voice doesn't become important when other people approve of it.

It's important because it's mine.

Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy seeing people connect with what I share. But I'm no longer looking for validation every time I hit "post." If it resonates, great. If it doesn't, that's okay too.

Because my value isn't determined by a number on a screen.
