this popped up in my memories from a fall sunrise in 2022…

and maybe the reminder isn’t just how incredible the sky was that morning 🔥

it’s that i need to create more margin to notice mornings like this.

to wander
to create
to watch the sky turn to fire and reflect across the sand

because somehow a few minutes of color and light can shift the entire direction of a day ✨

i need more room for that 🤔

the moment i put this preset on my pumpkin photos everything clicked. warm glow without looking fake, that soft dreamy fall haze, colors that actually look like what i remember 🍁

no hours of editing. no perfectionism. just a starting point that felt honest

if you like this kind of thing i offer free photography lessons every tuesday, learn more at rachelcarterimages.com/tuesday

and here's the full story on the preset

ahhh, august on the north carolina coast. ☀️🌊

where you walk outside for sunrise and your camera immediately reminds you that humidity is in charge. 😂

lens fog happens when cool gear meets warm, humid air and condensation forms on the glass. the trick is to put your gear outside early enough to acclimate before you shoot.

which i know.

which did not stop me from getting it wrong twice this week. 😆

but honestly… i kind of like what the fog did here.

sometimes the mistake gets interesting. 🤔📸

just a few images from our first couple days in kenya 🇰🇪

the african landscape
an elephant wandering through the swamp
feeding a giraffe
and thousands of photos already 😂

and somehow this was only the beginning…

watch my stories + kenya highlights for all the behind the scenes videos of our adventures because there is a whole lot more happening over there 😉

african sunsets. zebra. cheetah. and somewhere north of 6,000 photos.

if you get my tuesday emails, you already know how i feel about culling 😂 so we may be seeing kenya for a while.

apparently i’ve spent a lot of time on florida’s gulf coast for conferences this year… and i’m not mad about it with sunrises like this ☀️

was back in tampa this past week for sanctuary’s OASIS conference

📷 and a little sunrise photography reminder — don’t be disappointed when you wake up to clouds. clouds are what catch the color and give the sky all that texture.

shot on the Sony A7RV + 16–35mm f/2.8
