In the past few weeks I’ve been seeing more and more throwbacks to 2016, and it’s inspired me to look back myself.
I created my account in January 2016, and that’s when my journey on Instagram began. In the beginning, it’s pretty much all about the Land Rover Defender I’d bought used not long before. I travel through Europe with friends, driven by a sense of adventure and the urge to discover wild landscapes. I don’t have a camera. I document everything with my iPhone 6s.
Around mid-2016 I reach a point where I feel the need to level up. My best friend Marvin Walter is generous enough to lend me his camera: a Canon 700D. Along with my first steps in Adobe Lightroom, it sets something in motion. Looking back, this is exactly where everything begins that ultimately brings me to where I am today.
At the same time, I dive into what was a completely new world back then: the first DJI camera drones. I start with a Phantom 3, and later a Phantom 4. I’m blown away by the perspectives that suddenly become possible from the air.
And today, more than anything, I’m grateful for these ten years. I’m grateful for the places I’ve been able to see, and for the shared experiences I’ve had with amazing people. I look back on the beginnings with great joy and have put together my personal best-of from 2016.
