Covering this Seemantham (baby shower) was truly overwhelming. Through my lens, I had the privilege of capturing the elegance, emotion, and deep-rooted traditions that honour this sacred phase of life.
In South Indian culture, pregnancy is seen as a deeply spiritual journey, and Seemantham — also known as Valaikappu — beautifully celebrates motherhood with prayers for the health and well-being of both mother and child.
One of the most touching rituals is adorning the mother-to-be with glass bangles in vibrant green and red, their gentle sound believed to soothe the baby in the womb, as women from the family bless her with songs and love. The ceremony concludes with special traditional dishes, symbolising nourishment, strength, and prosperity.
What made this celebration even more special was witnessing the quiet care and love shared between husband, wife, and their unborn child.
Grateful to capture a beginning filled with culture, warmth, and timeless beauty 🤍
