Every family photographer in North County San Diego runs their session differently which makes total sense because we are all different people!

Personalities, styles, motivation, influence, and more all go into what makes us artists. I am no different.

My desire is to create timeless art-fill images that have a thread of romance through them all while having a stress-free experience for my clients and be I even say it, a fun time.

Working with families is so special, but my heart always calls out to highlight the love my couples have for each other.

Romance and passion don't die once the marriage license is signed. Over time that love deepens and gets richer.

As someone who has been married for 24 (almost 25) years, I understand that knowlege of loving someone so much more than you did the day you marry them.

Giving a special space for that kind of love at each session with a couple, makes this hopeless romantic a swelling hear.

Now booking SUNFLOWER SESSIONS.

Two locations and looks to choose from.

Big, towering rows of yellows and orange sunflowers at Big Jim's Farm. Big blue skies or golden glow sunset.

Wild fields of cone sunflowers and white yarrow surrounded by mountains and pine trees. Located on the back side of the Sandias.

Both locations are at their peak in August. The flowers only last a few weeks so don't put off booking a session now.

Well hidden behind the Sandia Mountain there is a wildflower patch that is a carpet of yellow sunflowers and white yarrow. Framed with the foothills and towering pine trees this secret spot is the perfect location for any family, maternity, or newborn pictures. A tad remote and very private this sunflower location is almost unbelievable in that it resides in the desert of New Mexico. This location is best early to mid-afternoon and blooming mid August to the beginning of September.

Two locations boast of this yellow explosion of happiness here in the Albuquerque area. Big Jim’s Farm and the back side of the Sandia Foothills.

Big Jim’s farm in Los Ranchos plants a large sunflower field every year inviting locals to take pictures among the rows and rows of towering plants. Giant heads of orange and yellow dipping in the breezes and follow the sun as it starts the mornings over the eastern mountains and sets in the western sky.

As well as pictures, the farm provides sheers and a mason jar of water for you to pick your favorite happy sunflowers to take home. This location is best to shoot late in the evening as the sun sets if you want a glowy look. If you like bright colors, morning or late afternoon would be perfect.

Summer is the best time of year for family photos. Most families think of getting scheduled for portraits in the Fall. Even though the Fall is lovely, it just isn’t the best time of year to get those pictures taken, and here’s why…

1. Slower Schedules: Summer means less on the family calendar, making it easier to schedule your photo session

2. Better Weather: No crazy wind, never-ending marine layer, and lack of rain. Just sun a warm summer breeze.

3. Easy Breezy Wardrobe: Warm weather means fewer items of clothing you need to put together the perfect outfits for your pictures.

4. Color, Color, Color: Lots of sun means brighter colors, especially on analog film. Yay!

5. Ya'll Look So Dang Good! Everyone is sun-kissed and relaxed.

I've saved my favorite location for family photos this summer (it's great anytime of year really, but especially lovely when it's summer). It is...

THE RUINS AT THE FOOTHILLS

I can not sing the praises of this gem of a location more. It is the coolest old ruin building with matching rock walls and stairs. Sitting right under the north side of the Sandia Mountain and surrounded by Juniper trees and native succulents. If you want a New Mexico vibe for your upcoming photo session, this is the best spot. Right off the top off Tramway before the Sandia reservation. This location is best right as the sun sets. Maternity, newborn, family, or graduating Senior sessions are just so, so good at this outdoor location for pictures.

ELENA GALLEGOS OPEN SPACE

If you want that watermelon-pink Sandia mountain for your family photos, this is the place. Located just off central Tramway, Elena Gallegos Open Space is a desert location nestled at the base of the Sandia mountain. Because it is a state run park, it does cost $2 to park and it needs to be cash. The best time for this location is 45-30 minutes before sunset.

SANDIA SKI RESORT

I know this sounds like a weird suggestion for a family photo shoot in the Summer, but trust me it is lovely. In the Summer all of the ski runs turn into massive fields of waving wheat. On the edges of the fields are soaring pine trees. Get in a white dress and a straw hat then frolic in golden fields as I snap away getting the most lovely and romantic images. Driving time from central ABQ is about 30 minutes. The best time for this location for any session I offer is in the afternoon.

Los Poblanos Open Space
If you don’t want to drive very far, this centrally located photo shoot location is perfect for your next family pictures. With big open fields of planted hay or barley framed with a line of tall trees, this spot is amazing. If we time it right, you can catch the Sandias turning pink too. All session types (family, maternity, newborn, or graduating Senior) taking place at this locations will be done 45 minutes before sundown. This allows for the sun to filter through the trees and cast a yummy glow.
