Lexi + Nick // Arthur’s Seat elopement, Edinburgh

Let’s set the scene: you travel from New York City to Edinburgh to propose to your girlfriend on your Scottish holiday, and use such a wonderful time here you decide to come back to tie the knot!

Also- you loved working with your Scottish proposal photographer so much that you ask her to be your Edinburgh wedding photographer too!

This day was full of emotion: love and joy, nostalgia, celebration. A very teary first look 🥲, a relaxed and heartfelt ceremony performed by a longtime family friend, and their nearest and dearest there to witness it all.

We took a wee detour part way through the day for an outfit change and then back out to get some cityscapes and some special photos at the exact spot they got engaged, too. 💍

Absolutrly@honoured to be asked back to photograph another very special day for these two- thanks a ton L + N! ❤️

I will be putting this one up on the blog soon too, more photos to come.

I worry a lot about regret:

That one day I’ll wish I had done things differently.

Juggling motherhood alongside a career and all the other aspects of a full life is hard: there are never enough hours in a day and try as I might to be “in the moment” and slowing down- I can’t shake the feeling that it’s all happening far too fast.

And I think that’s why I believe so strongly not only in what I do as a newborn and family photographer- but also in how I do it.

I carefully and thoughtfully chose this in home, candid, relaxed, style of newborn photography so that I could document your real moments- capture a moment in time as naturally and true to life as possible.

If you’re expecting a baby or recently added a new member to your family- I’d love to be the one to document this very special moment in time. Limited spaces available for spring- book anytime from your 20 week scan onwards.

Drop me a message at [email protected] or DM me for all the info.

A wee glimpse of our ten year vow renewal ❤️

Very DIY (with the talents, time and help of many wonderful friends) right here at home in the west end of Glasgow, non-traditional, a wee bit alternative, relaxed and fun. Completely us.

Lots of colour, some happy tears and a day willed with love and joy and the people who make up our village. ❤️

A small selection of our brilliant photos by my dear friend Kristin of , and a massive shout out to:

for our incredible flowersdesign for our program design

Our friends Kat + Nichola for performing the ceremony and Emmelie, Lynsey + Suzanne for doing readings (we chose a poem I love by my fav poet Hollie McNish and Bowie song)

Our friend Phil on music (this was our entrance song)

Nothing like a big snowfall to brush off the cobwebs!

If only we had some of this in Glasgow…

These pics are actually from a trip back home to Canada many years ago- watching my daughter explore with wonder, absolutely mesmerised by the snow.

I’ve lived in Scotland for ten years, but spent the other (almost) 30 years of my life in Winnipeg, Canada- where white Christmasses are a given (I’d never not had one before moving here) and snow like this lasts from November through March- sometimes longer.

I’ve not been home for Christmas in years, and I sure miss these proper winter scenes.

Anyways- happy new year and a big hug to my fellow expats who missed the snow over the holidays. ❤️

I’m slowly dipping my toes back in online and would love to know: what would you like to see more of on here?

It’s not just about pretty pictures…

Well, at least it’s not for me, and the way I want to be known as a photographer.

I hesitated to share my true top nine because a lot of them aren’t highlighting the more polished photos I took, but instead my advocacy work and my real behind the scenes.

And when most others in my industry are showing their “hero” shots- the ones that make couples want to book them based just on seeing a photo, the ones that impress other photographers and maybe even win them awards- my most liked posts have been posts about diversity an inclusion, about my values and my process and what it’s like to work with me.

And while that might not get me featured in any fancy magazines? It is highlighting my main reasons for doing what I do, why I love and care so much about my work and the people I work with. How I’m trying to make a difference in my industry and the world around me.

So I’m proud of my top nine- and the fact that these are the posts that got me the most interaction?

That shows me I have the right kind of people following me here too. ❤️

Why bother caring about inclusivity?

Because EVERYONE should feel like they belong in our world- in our stories, in our work, in our live and joy and celebration.

I’ve shared my perspective on inclusivity in the wedding and photography industry in the visuals above (swipe for the full story!)

But I also wanted to note, on a personal level, that this is about more to me than just doing the right thing.

It’s about seeing people I love and am close to represented in the world too.

Many of you know I have a four year old daughter with complex needs. Poppy has a rare genetic condition called Rett syndrome, affecting only 1 in 10,000 girls worldwide, and as a results she is non verbal, has limited motor function and is a wheelchair user.

I almost never see children with complex needs represented in the world in a positive light.
We tend to see family photos and advertisements and films with able-bodied, typically developing children being celebrated again and again- and the rest of swept under the rug. Treated as though we are less than: less worthy, less beautiful, less valid as an example of what a happy family can be.

I love people in the LGBTQ+ community too- and many of the other marginalised communities I mentioned above.

So for me inclusivity IS personal- as well as something I see as an important responsibility as a business owner, a mother and a human being.

I’m trying to play my part in learning to be more inclusive, to better celebrate diversity and to amplify marginalised voices, and to create a business that is accessible to everyone. And I hope all of those around me, in the photographer and wedding industries and elsewhere, will commit to doing the same.

Because inclusivity matters: for families like ours, for people in our communities, to work towards a better world.

< CHOSEN FAMILY >

When you say “I do”, your new family becomes official. The joining not only of two people, but the people who love each of them too.

This looks different for everyone, just as that I Do money looks different for every couple.

Sometimes it’s a big barn filled to the brim with the families they were born into and the friends they’ve met along the way.

Sometimes it’s just immediate family and closest friends in an intimate registry office wedding ceremony.

Sometimes it’s a small group of friends, in a non traditional venue.

And others? It’s just the two of you- and the four legged pal who stole your hearts.

No matter who you have there on the day? They are the family you chose for yourselves.

This was a tough one for me, in the lead up to my own wedding.

And sharing so openly and honestly about it is inspired by a post the fabulous made earlier this week as she navigates her own wedding plans-

and happens to be the prompt for today’s

I chose not to shrink myself body for my wedding, and I can tell you that I didn’t and don’t regret it for a second.

Not on the day, and not now, ten years later, as I look back on the photos.

You don’t need to change ANYTHING about yourself to look and feel beautiful on your day. No matter what magazines, wedding blogs, romantic films, society or the people around you tell you. (I hope they aren’t telling you this, but if they are? 👊

The person you are marrying you chose you for who you are and they love you for it- they won’t be expecting you to change.

And you won’t be any more beautiful, or happier on the day of you shrink yourself. You won’t smile more as you look back on your photos, your memories won’t be more special, you won’t have had a better day.

If anyone is making you feel pressure to lose weight for the wedding- I promise you it doesn’t matter. As a past bride myself, as a wedding photographer with over a decade of experience, and as someone who has been to more than their fair share of weddings? I’m willing to bet you won’t care one bit.

And you’ll look absolutely f*cking radiant in your photos, at whatever size you currently are, too. 🔥

I didn’t know this would be Dexter’s last Christmas. 🐾😢

When I took the time to create these photos I had no idea they would be last photos I’d take of him around the tree.

I remember being frustrated trying to set this up: the lighting wasn’t right and the girls had lost their patience and Poppy wouldn’t sit still.

But the thing is- these “imperfect” photos capture a moment in time I’ll never get back, but want to keep remembering. And that’s what matters.

Photos of that one last festive season with all of us together.

If you’re feeling unsure about a family photo session because your home renovations aren’t finished or you haven’t had a chance to redecorate or the kids are in a difficult ‘phase’?

I promise you those things don’t matter. You’ll just be glad to have captured the moments.

Christmas mini sessions in Glasgow are happening Dec 5-7th with limited spots remaining. I’ll pop the booking link in my bio, or you can drop me an email at [email protected].

If you live outside of Glasgow but are interested in a session? Send me a DM and we’ll see if we can find a date and time that suits. 👍

Read the PHOTO, not the copy. 😒

There are many different styles of photography out there, and that’s a good thing! There is something for everyone.

But lately there seems to be a bit of a trend for photographers calling their work something it isn’t.

Whether it’s intentional or not, it’s confusing to people who don’t live in the photography realm, and are looking for the right photographer for their wedding day or family photo session.

So how DO you find the right photographer for you?

👉Step one: take a good look at what’s out there- and short list some photographers whose work you are drawn to.

👉Step two: have a think about how you want to spend your day/session. Do you want to just be in the moment as much as possible, or are you happy to head off and be directed? There are no right answers here- it’s what suits you!

👉Step three: search for photographers who offer the style and approach you are looking for. If you love the high fashion/flash/hollywood poses you’re looking for editorial. Classic style and romantic posing? Fine art /traditional. Relaxed, candid and fun? You’re after documentary style photographers.

👉Step four: take a good look at their portfolio, and make sure their work matches the words on their website or instagram bio. If they are saying one thing but showing another, trust what you SEE.

👉Step five: look at their reviews and client feedback- that’s the best way to get a fee for what it’s like to actually work with them.

I hope that helps! If you’re looking for an inclusive wedding and family photographer in Glasgow, Scotland,

With a candid, documentary style and a relaxed and fun approach? Well then you’re in the right place.
