My last trip to Rutland Osprey Project (and my last real wildlife photography in almost 3 weeks!) wasn't as successful as the trip before - with the Ospreys staying a good distance away, but I did like this shot of the bird with a fish flying up to the manton bay nest.

With any luck I will have the video from the first trip up on my YouTube channel Tuesday next week!

A small bit of doom is over as I have successfully completed my work course!

However the month of June is pretty mental and I still have a lot to get sorted - so there's no danger of me getting back to normal with the Facebook and YouTube just yet! :(

Here is a closer shot of my local Heron friend. Would be good to see him again tonight but I am exhausted and have the pleasure of more training tomorrow!

It’s amazing how having zero free time for photography lately suddenly makes even the most ordinary subject feel like a gift.

I don’t actually see many herons locally, but this guy has decided to become my unofficial muse. He’s turning into a bit of a star - I just need him to take off in the correct direction next time (towards me…not away like a feathery diva).

Still, moments like this remind me why I love picking up the camera, even when life gets busy.

Stumbled across this little metallic gem while wandering through the back to the car park at Rutland Osprey Project.

I didn't have as much joy with the Ospreys on this visit so decided to open my eyes to the smaller things around me.

This is the mature, female Candy‑stripe Spider (Enoplognatha ovata) - a species so small you could blink and miss it, yet it looks like it’s been hand‑painted in gold leaf.

They’re totally harmless, and spend their days lurking on leaves waiting for unsuspecting flies to land. Subtle, shy, and surprisingly beautiful when you get close enough to appreciate the details.

Proof that even the smallest corners of the countryside are full of tiny wonders doing their thing, completely unnoticed.

This is Reactive Outdoor's 2-Step Cabin Tent that they recently sent me out to test. They told me that if I genuinely enjoyed it, that they would love for me to share my honest experience on YouTube and Facebook. No pressure, no deadlines.

This was PERFECT timing after selling my campervan and getting an EV! My new car is great and all - but you can't really go camping in it!

This is where this 2-step tent comes in!

Naturally, I decided to set it up in the in-laws garden to try it out and honestly, I think my perception of tents being "divorce makers" are a thing of the past!

We got it out of the bag, put down 4 tent pegs, fitted the battery and pressed a button. The tent took care of the rest!

All we had to do was peg the guide lines down and the ventilation flaps and we were good to go in less than five minutes!

I am honestly, truly blown away. We shall be taking the tent with us on our holidays this year (and perhaps some fishing trips, yes Joey) to give it a thorough test - so if there any questions please let me know!

I have also posted a sped up video on my Facebook story to show how easy it is to put up :)

An actual photo of me contemplating my next couple of weeks on this planet...

I tend to overshare so let's keep it short and simple by saying that the next couple of weeks are going to be tiresome and challenging.

However it will come to an end - so if I am quiet and not posting much - just know it's not through choice and normal service will resume as quickly as it can :)

This image shows just how incredible the OM 150-400 is - I have cropped out over 17 megapixels and it's still sharp as hell! *I may have decreased the resolution even further in LR by accident at export..

I might not be out using it for a while but I don't regret the purchase. One. Little. Bit!

In today's episode of what you can do is get home and share an Osprey image taken from my previous trip (I still need to finish editing the YouTube video due to barrel loads of life related doom)

If you enjoy watching videos of me being doomed up by life then feel free to watch my very relatable stories here on Facebook :D

Back at Rutland Water yesterday - honestly the best £6 of electricity I’ll spend all summer.

At this rate I might as well forward my post to the Ospreys and let them know I’m basically a regular now.

Sadly, unlike my last epic encounter, the male decided to spend the entire afternoon doing laps on the opposite side of the lake like he was avoiding me on purpose. No other Ospreys showed up either, probably all on annual leave.

BUT… silver lining.
This Oystercatcher was having a full spa day right in front of me -preening, posing, and giving me every wing position under the sun. SH2 + Pro Capture absolutely earned their keep.

And now, as of tomorrow, we enter the Hot Bank Holiday Weekend™ where I’ll be dressed appropriately for the weather in…
boots, trousers, 12+ hour shifts.
Living the dream.

On the plus side:
No heat haze.
No busy hides.
No sunburn.
See - I am becoming more positive.

Let’s just agree not to discuss the rest of May until mid‑June. That stretch is pure mega death doom.

Popped out locally before dinner and got so lucky - great spotted woodpecker, a male roe deer grazing just down the field, a grey heron, and I even heard the bittern booming again.

Wife wasn’t thrilled I was “a bit late,” but honestly one of my best short evening trips ever.

Off to Rutland tonight to try for the ospreys - YouTube video from the last trip drops next week. Sometimes the best wildlife is right on your doorstep. 🦉🦌📸
