Doorways in Lisbon, Portugal.
I have started revisiting footage and photos from my long trip last fall and I love the random moments I forgot I captured. At the time, Lisbon felt somewhat disappointing to be honest.
Now looking back with a different perspective I realized most of the dissatisfaction came from minuite circumstances that I let get the best of me. We were a month into our trip, travel worn and both Taylor and I were fighting off a lingering sickness. Lisbon was hot and full of cobblestone steps, I hit my head on the small door of our rented apartment upon arrival, we ventured out to Sintra, a very hyped area littered with Castles and ruins only to find it extremely packed with rude tourists, a lady physically pushed Taylor at one point. All of these micro moments weighed down our experience and left our expectations feeling hollow.
But now, with time and space between, I look back fondly again. Not only do I love some of the photos I made here, I miss some of these moments deeply. Eating tinned fish while we watched a surf competition on the beach, marveling at the elaborate tile work across every other building, trying to figure out the method in which Portuguese grocery stores work.
Lisbon may not be my absolute favorite and I think it is one of the most over touristed places I’ve ever been to, but this place is still very worth the squeeze and can holding some very charming and special moments.
