When I first visited this site, I was amazed by the vast expanses of hard coral areas revealed under low tide, that was when I suggested to my fiancee that we should try starting this project. This is by no means a long project for us because it would be too daunting and expensive to finish documenting the biodiversity ourselves.

Despite numerous challenges, including the limited time due to the high low tide, the cost of staying at a nearby resort, and the significant foraging that overturned rocks and corals, we still did our best. The local sea nomads depend on this reef for survival, relying on its abundant food sources and their fishing skills. There’s also significant coral bleaching present.

Our hope is not only to help the local communities but also to inspire others to appreciate the beauty of their intertidal zones. We hope to cover our costs to explore more areas in the bay. Please reach out to us if you want to support us!

A friend commended this species to be the most beautiful frog in China. That shows how much charm these little-sized cuties have. They are one of the interesting trio to have green blood, turquoise bones and complex calls which sound like chirping of a bird. I was fortunate to have come across a breeding area and documented their eggs. They could be really hard to find if you can't hear them, because of their small sizes, translucency and cryptic coloration to match the leaves they perch on. They are distribute along the Indochina and China border.

As you head up north from Indonesia towards China, the horned frogs are speciose but not as popular as the sole species Malayan Horned frog (Pelobatrachus nasuta) but they are still pretty in their own ways. Some nights, these guys would rest along the slopes of the road especially after a rain shower.

Chinese always name subjects with tender love, hence this beauty is affectionately called the 100 flower snake. Elaphe moellendorffi is a cave ratsnake that usually predates on susceptible bats, only known from north Vietnam and China. They are commonly caught for food and snake wine in their ranges. A leaf insect nymph about 2 metres from the ground. A happy surprise because they are such interesting creatures. Unfortunately, its species is unknown because it is still in its nymph stage with undeveloped wings. It may be hinting a female from its wider body shape.

One of the most sought-for snakes for its utmost beauty in Taiwan or China, it is almost unheard of by foreign herpers in north Vietnam. It was recently discovered to be in India as well- what a wide distribution. They are often caught by locals for food to sell to the Chinese people because China has very strict wildlife laws in place to protect them.

I have not come with practice in photographing frog embryos so I am still trying to figure the best lighting for them. This cluster has slightly developed tadpoles of Gracixalus gracilipes (Chapa Bubble-nest Frog) hanging just above a rain-collected puddle so the grown tadpoles could fall into and continue its development to become adults. These group of frogs are known to have very beautiful mating call complex where each song do not sound exactly the same.
