Under the Umbrellas - District 10

There’s a moment in street photography

where everything becomes very simple.

Not about settings.

Not about technique.

But about connection.

A look.

A smile.

A small gesture that says: it’s okay.

Yesterday, Allison stepped into that moment.

No rush.

No hesitation.

Just presence.

And suddenly, the distance disappears.

That’s when photography changes.

Not when you ask.

Not when you think.

But when you feel the moment is right.

This is what we work on during the experience.

Not how to shoot.

But how to see.

Morning in the tea hills.

The first figures appear through the mist.

Moving slowly between the rows,
hands working with a rhythm that feels almost timeless.

This is not a place you photograph in a hurry.

You walk.
You watch.
You wait for the moment when the light settles…
and something aligns.

During Sri Lanka - The Unwritten Road, we spend time here.

Not just to take pictures -
but to understand the rhythm of these landscapes,
and the people who shape them every day.

She noticed me

before I took the photo.

In the middle of the market, everything was moving.

Motorbikes passing.

Voices blending.

People focused on their day.

And then, just for a second —

a connection.

This is where street photography begins.

Not with settings.

Not with gear.

But with awareness.

A scene like this doesn’t stand out at first.

You learn to notice it.

To understand how the light shapes it.

To position yourself.

And to wait for the right moment.

But pressing the shutter is only part of the process.

After the shoot:

• You select what really matters

• You refine the composition

• You crop and simplify

• You edit with intention

• And you build an image that feels true

This is exactly how I work.

And this is what I share during my photography sessions in Saigon.

Most people start with one session.

Then something clicks.

And that’s when we can go further —

review, editing, understanding what makes an image stronger.

If you’re curious about this approach,

just send me a message.

I’ll guide you depending on your time and what you’re looking for.

This is where photography actually happens.

Not in perfect locations.

Not in curated scenes.

But here - in the middle of real life.

A woman working in silence.

A gesture.

A glance.

A moment that exists for a fraction of a second.

But taking the photo is only part of the process.

What really matters is:

• seeing the scene

• understanding the light

• composing instinctively

• pressing the shutter at the right moment

And then:

• selecting the images that truly matter

• refining the frame

• editing with intention

• shaping a final image that feels alive

This is what we work on during my photography walks in Saigon.

Not just taking photos

but learning how to see, feel and capture real moments.

She didn't see me.

But for a split second, everything aligned.

Street photography in Saigon isn’t about taking photos.

It’s about being there…
in that split second where everything aligns - light, people, instinct.

A look. A gesture. A presence.

That’s what we work on during my workshops.

Not settings. Not gear.

Seeing. Feeling. Reacting.

There is a special quietness in Cambodian temples.

Before the heat of the day, monks walk slowly through ancient corridors.

The sound of footsteps, soft and almost invisible.

Light slipping through stone, revealing textures shaped by centuries.

For a photographer, these moments are not about spectacle.

They are about stillness, patience… and being fully present.

Cambodia offers a unique atmosphere — where light, rhythm and human presence come together in a very subtle way.

There’s a moment when everything starts to click.

Not the settings.

Not the composition.

But the connection.

Yesterday in District 10, under the umbrellas, it happened again.

A smile.

A few words.

And suddenly, the distance disappears.

This is what these sessions are really about.

Not just taking photos —

but stepping into the rhythm of the street,

getting closer,

and learning to feel the moment before you shoot.

Saigon doesn’t reveal itself to everyone.

But if you slow down… it gives you everything.

leave.

Sri Lanka is one of those places you keep thinking about.

Fishermen returning at sunrise.

Tea pickers move quietly through the hills.

Markets waking up in soft morning light.

Small moments of life, everywhere.

This is the kind of journey I’ve been wanting to build for a long time:

Sri Lanka - The Unwritten Road

A 13-day photography expedition focused on real life, light and human stories.

Morning light in a District 8 market

This morning I spent some time wandering through one of the markets in District 8.

A few days after Tet, the rhythm is slowly returning.

Vendors setting up their stalls, people arriving on motorbikes, the soft chaos of umbrellas, shadows and narrow alleys.

Markets like this are always a fascinating place to photograph.

You don’t need to go far. Just walk slowly, watch the light, and wait for those small moments when everything briefly comes together.

These quiet morning scenes are part of what we often explore during my Saigon street photography sessions, moving through markets and backstreets while learning to read the light and anticipate the moment.

Morning in District 8

Just after sunrise, the markets of District 8 slowly wake up.

Bicycles move through the narrow streets, vendors settle under their umbrellas, and the first customers arrive while the light filters through trees and tangled cables.

In places like this, the street never stops changing. A scene appears, disappears, and if you’re lucky, everything aligns for just a moment.

These are the kind of streets we explore during my Saigon photo tours, learning to read the light and anticipate those fleeting moments of daily life.
