Capturing Time Through Scratches: A Photographic Journey with Lacia and Christian Olofsson’s Watches

When Lacia and Christian Olofsson entrusted me with this project, the task seemed simple—photograph their watches. But these weren’t just timepieces; they were family heirlooms, marked by years of love, milestones, and memories. “A crown for every achievement”, as the slogan states.

Purchased around the birth of their sons, these watches have lived through nearly two decades of life’s moments—birthdays, anniversaries, and everyday experiences. Every scratch and dent isn’t a flaw but a testament to time well spent. Now, as they pass them down to their sons, I had the privilege of capturing their true essence—not as polished showpieces, but as lived-in symbols of family history. While the sons might not necessarily want to display oversized portraits of their parents, the thinking is that the photos of the watches will serve as art work in their homes.

Working alongside Christian, a talented photographer himself, we spent over 10 hours refining each shot, ensuring that the imperfections—the real storytellers—remained at the heart of the images. This project reminded me that perfection isn’t about flawlessness; it’s about the marks left by a life well-lived.
I’m honored to have been part of this journey. These images are not of pristine objects, but of cherished artifacts, carrying the weight of time, love, and legacy. An additional detail is that the watches are set to the date (both sons born on the 17th) and time they entered this world.

Thank you, Lacia Olofsson and Christian Olofsson, for allowing me to document a piece of your family’s history.

As we settle into the first few days of 2026, many of us are reflecting on our professional and personal goals for the year ahead. In the creative industry, there is often a misconception that high-quality output requires a massive studio, a fleet of assistants, and an endless budget for specialized equipment. However, some of the most profound growth happens when we strip away the excess and focus on the fundamental marriage of light and composition.
During this past New Year holiday, I had the pleasure of exploring the "high-key" aesthetic through the lens of Apurva M Photography. High-key photography, characterized by its bright tones, minimal shadows, and upbeat atmosphere, is a technical challenge that demands a deep understanding of overexposure without losing critical detail. What made this particular session so rewarding was the constraint we set: we utilized only simple props and everyday items found within the comfort of a standard home and kitchen.
This exercise served as a powerful reminder that "practice makes perfect" isn't just a tired cliché—it is the blueprint for mastery. By transforming mundane household objects into subjects of art, we were forced to look at the familiar with fresh eyes. Whether it was the curve of a ceramic mug, the translucency of a glass of water, or the texture of linen napkins, these items became the building blocks of a sophisticated visual narrative.
Constant improvement is my primary driver for 2026. Stepping out of one's comfort zone to experiment with high-key lighting in a non-traditional environment proves that creativity is not limited by our surroundings, but rather by our willingness to iterate and refine our craft. When you focus on the process rather than just the final product, the act of learning becomes the greatest motivator of all.
