I’ve been thinking a lot lately about the world we’re handing off to the next generation, and honestly, it weighs on me.

When I look back at my youth, yeah, we had our share of hardships—life wasn't a cakewalk—but our "emergencies" felt so much more human. My biggest stressors usually boiled down to whether or not R&S Strauss had the right carburetor kit in stock for my ’69 Cougar, or exactly how many hours late we were going to be to the party because Maggie was still upstairs wrestling with her hair. Those were the stakes.

But today? The pressure these kids are under is on a different level. It’s not just about the physical stuff—the "bombs and fires" we see on the news. It’s the constant, invisible weight of the world that they have to carry in their pockets every single day. I truly fear the state of things is going to leave a mark on them that goes much deeper than any struggle we faced. We were worried about getting the car running; they’re worried about whether the world is even going to keep spinning.

It’s a lot for a young heart to hold.

Visiting Taman Ayun Temple in Bali is a serene and culturally enriching experience. Located in Mengwi Village, about 18 kilometers from Denpasar, this temple is surrounded by a large moat, giving it the appearance of floating amidst lush greenery. Built in 1634 by King Gusti Agung Putu of the Mengwi Kingdom, it was designed as a place of worship for the royal family and locals who could not travel to Bali’s mother temple, Besakih. The name Taman Ayun translates to “beautiful garden,” reflecting its stunning architecture, tiered shrines, and manicured landscapes. The temple is part of Bali’s subak irrigation system and was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2012.
Quick Facts:
