Outdoor Attractions: Annaberg Plantation Ruins, Leinster Bay Trail, Denis Bay, Denis Bay Beach, Hansen Bay, Sail and Snorkel Adventure (Flanagan Island was a highlight!), Ram Head Trail & all its beaches (Blue Cobblestone Beach, Salt Pond Bay Beach).
Restaurants: Skinny Legs (best burgers & key lime pie!), Johnny Lime (amazing pulled pork combo).

The Peace Hill Sugar Mill ruins, remnants of the 18th-century Denis Bay Plantation, are located atop a scenic knoll on St. John's North Shore. A short, easy trail leads to the stone tower, which once served as a windmill for grinding sugarcane. From the summit, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic vistas of the Caribbean Sea, including Hawksnest Bay and Trunk Bay. The serene and picturesque setting offers a peaceful and historically significant stop for those exploring the Virgin Islands National Park. This photo was taken during one of our visits to the island in May of 2022.

In the quieter, less-developed village of Coral Bay, a May night offers a serene escape under a canopy of stars, with fewer crowds than in the high season. The air, warm and moderately humid, carries the symphony of chirping tree frogs from the surrounding lush hillsides. The gentle rhythm of the sea lapping against the shore and the bobbing sailboats in the harbor create a peaceful, laid-back soundtrack to the evening. While many of the local cafes and bars are closing down by 10 p.m., the tranquil atmosphere, enhanced by the dim glow of scattered lights, provides the perfect backdrop for a relaxed evening and a deeper connection with the island's natural beauty. We are greatly looking forward to our next visit there.

On May 11th, 2024, we embarked on a 12-day adventure to a place unknown to us until a few Google searches on best snorkel vacationing spots in the Caribbean returned “Roatan” as a strong contender for consideration. All indicators pointed to world class snorkeling, sandy beaches, good restaurants, and friendly people. Normally the reoccurring usage of “best” raises skepticism; however, my research of what Roatan offered checked every box within my destination preference list and started booking our itinerary. From when we arrived and throughout our stay, not only did Roatan check every item on our list, but it also exceeded our expectations in many ways and hope we can visit again soon.
