Ahhhh, ¿creían que el hecho de que mi página se llama "URUG-wild" por mi país de origen (🇺🇾), me limitaría a las fronteras del mismo a la hora de mostrarles mi perspectiva del lado más salvaje de nuestro planeta? ¡ERRORRRR, jejejeje 😁! ¡Desde hace MUCHÍSIMO tiempo, ANTES incluso de que "URUGWILD" naciera, he deseado poder RECORRER EL MUNDO, experimentando su cara más salvaje y conocer a gente de múltiples culturas!
Mi querida bandada, estoy seguro de que se acuerdan de mi, mencionando alguna vez que eventualmente, el sueño es transformar mi página de una humilde ventanita al lado más salvaje de 🇺🇾, a una ventana HECHA EN URUGUAY, al lado más salvaje DEL PLANETA TIERRA 🌎...y todo el hype del mundo, les confirmo que: ¡Acabamos de dar EL PRIMER PASO HACIA ESE GRÁN FUTURO...EN LA REPÚBLICA ARGENTINA 🇦🇷!

Ahhhh, you thought that the fact that my page is called "URUG-wild" after my country of origin (🇺🇾), would limit me to its borders when it comes to showing you my perspective of the wildest side of our planet?

My dear flock, I'm sure you remember me mentioning sometime before that eventually, the dream is to transform my page from a humble little window to the wildest side of 🇺🇾, to a window MADE IN URUGUAY, to the wildest side OF THE PLANET EARTH 🌎...and all the hype in the world, I confirm that: We have just taken THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS THAT GREAT FUTURE...IN THE ARGENTINE REPUBLIC 🇦🇷!

Si hay una foto que representa a la perfección la personalidad del Cardenal azul o Frutero azul (Stephanophorus diadematus) es sin lugar a dudas, LA PRIMERA de estas tres imágenes.
Después de todo, una coloración cómo está, la cual es altamente llamativa ante nuestros ojos, BRILLA ante los de las aves rapaces desde kilómetros de distancia, gracias a que ellas poseen en sus ojos tanto las mismas células sensibles al color en forma de cono que nosotros, pero con una sensibilidad muy superior a la nuestra, como una 4ta célula que les permite ver en el espectro ultravioleta, lo cual hace que ciertos colores se vean fluorescentes y les permite ver otros QUE NOSOTROS NI SIQUIERA PODEMOS NI IMAGINAR.
Esa es la razón por la cual esta especie es tán complicada de fotografiar. Porque ellos mismos saben que exponerse demasiado atraerá atención no deseada, lo cual explica su carácter desconfiado y altamente nervioso. Siempre inquietos y utilizando la vegetación más densa como cobertura para mantenerse ocultos así pueden buscar alimento SIN VOLVERSE ELLOS MISMOS EN UNO.

If there is a photo that perfectly represents the personality of the Diademed tanager (Stephanophorus diadematus) it is, without a doubt, THE FIRST one of these three images. After all, with colors like thes, which is highly striking before our eyes, SHINES to those of birds of prey from miles away, thanks to the fact that they have both the same cone-shaped cells that are sensitive to color, but with a sensitivity far superior to ours, as well as a 4th cell that allows them to see in the ultraviolet spectrum, which makes certain colors appear fluorescent and allows them to see others THAT WE CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE. That is the reason why this species is so complicated to photograph. Because they know that exposing themselves too much will attract unwanted attention, which explains their shy and highly nervous nature. Always restless and using the densest vegetation as cover to stay hidden so they can forage for food WITHOUT BECOME ONE THEMSELVES.

(🇪🇦): "¿Porqué yo? ¿Porque soy el que aparece en TV, radio y tendrá una serie...cuando ME RODEAN docenas de personas GENIALES que son igual de aptas para esto?" Esas son cosas que me preguntaba bastante a menudo estos últimos años, pero fue este año cuando entendí al fin el valor que tiene en la conservación EL ELEMENTO HUMANO: Los valores, la personalidad, tu forma de expresarte y lo que generás en quienes te rodean, EL CAMINO QUE RECORRISTE. Mirando hacia atrás y contemplando todo el recorrido que ahora son mis 23 años en este planeta, entiendo porque los medios se interesaron en mi. Valoro las sonrisas que surgen en la gente que me reconocen por la calle y a veces incluso piden sacarse fotos conmigo. Por todo eso y más, estoy que dispuesto a usar mi propia imágen como OTRA HERRAMIENTA MÁS para conectar a la gente CON LOS ANIMALES SALVAJES, INCLUSO SI ESO ME HACE FAMOSO EN UN FUTURO. Pero solo acepto eso porque alguien sabio una vez me dijo: "LA HUMILDAD ES UNA CARACTERÍSTICA DE LOS GRANDES". Sin importar lo que me depare el futuro, sea grande o pequeño, JAMÁS PIENSO DEJAR DE SER EL "BICHERO" DE SIEMPRE.

(🇬🇧): "Why me? Why am I the one in TV & Radio...when I'M SURROUNDED by dozens of AWESOME people who OVERCOME me and could be just as fit for this?" Those are things that I have asked myself quite often in recent years, but it was this year when I finally understood the value of THE HUMAN ELEMENT in conservation: Personality, values, your way of expressing yourself and what you generate in people, THE PATH YOU WALKED. Looking back and contemplating all the journey that now are my 23 years on this planet, I understand why the media put his eyes in me. I value the smiles that come from people who recognize me on the street and sometimes ask to take pictures with me. For all that and more, I am willing to use my own image as ANOTHER TOOL to connect people WITH WILDLIFE, EVEN IF IT MAKES ME FAMOUS IN THE FUTURE.
But I only accept it because someone wise told me: "HUMILITY IS A FEATURE OF THE GREAT". No matter what awaits me in the future, wether it's big or small, I DON'T INTEND TO CEASE BEING THE SAME "BICHERO" AS ALWAYS.

Las primeras semanas de vida son siempre las más peligrosas para todos los ciervos, y si eres un Guazubirá (Mazama gouazoubira), es aún peor. ¿Por qué? Porque al ser un solitario especialista en Bosques, significa que para moverse más eficientemente entre laberintos de troncos, ramas, arbustos y hojas, son más pequeños que la mayoría de las especies que habitan en pastizales abiertos...la desventaja es que LOS CERVATILLOS TAMBIÉN SE ENCOGEN, lo que los convierte en un manjar muy tentador para, literalmente, todo los depredador que sea más grande o más fuerte que ellos, desde Gatos monteses, hasta los Búhos Ñacurutú.

Esta es la razón por la cual la mayoría de las especies nacen con manchas blancas que imitan los parches creados por esos rayos de luz que atraviesan el dosel, alcanzando el sombrío suelo del bosque, donde estos pequeños permanecerán totalmente inmóviles en un lugar específico, previamente elegido por sus madres para que permanezcan acostados y escondidos, hasta que sus madres regresan de alimentarse para amamantarlos.

The very first weeks of life are always the most dangerous for all deers, and if you are a Gray brocket (Mazama gouazoubira), it's even worse. Why? Because being a solitary forest specialist, it means that in order to move more efficiently between mazes of trunks, branches, bushes & leaves, they are smaller than most species that inhabit open grasslands...the downside is that FAWNS ALSO SHRINK DOWN IN SIZE, making them a very tempting delicacy for literally every predator that's bigger or stronger than them, from Geoffroy cats, all the way to Great-horned owls.

This is why most species are born with white spots that mimic the patches created by those light beams that break through the canopy, reaching the gloomy forest floor, where these lil'fellas will remain totally motionless in a specific spot, previously chosen by their mothers for their babies to lie down & hide, until their mothers return from feeding to suckle them, before quickly going out again to feed while the fawns run into hiding.

This is a male Chestnut-backed tanager (Stilpnia preciosa) one of the many species of fruit specialists that are a key in the rejuvenation of our native forests, since they eat said fruits and p**p out the seeds, which eventually germinate far away from the main tree & with enough fertilizer (*bird 💩*) to grow up strong & healthy. This particular species does NOT have a melodic voice to seduce the ladies...but, WITH A COSTUME LIKE THAT, WHO NEEDS IT, ANYWAY? 😍
A good way to invite beauties like this one to your garden, is by planting native trees that produce native fruits...but having in mind that the ones found in Uruguay tend to grow kinda slowly, IF the flora in your area is exotic & poor in fruit production, A GOOD SLICE OF ORANGE will do just the trick on inviting them to stay in your area, until your tree saplings grow big enough to feed the local birdlife!

Este es un macho de Achará o Saira castaña (Stilpnia preciosa) una de las muchas especies especialistas en frutas en que son clave en el rejuvenecimiento de nuestros bosques nativos, ya que comen dichas frutas y defecan las semillas, que eventualmente germinan lejos del árbol principal y con suficiente fertilizante (*💩 de ave*) para crecer fuertes y saludables. Esta especie en particular NO tiene una voz melódica para seducir a las damas...pero, CON UN TRAJE COMO ESE, ¿QUIÉN LA NECESITA, DE TODOS MODOS? 😍
Una buena manera de invitar a bellezas como esta a su jardín es plantando árboles nativos que produzcan frutos..pero teniendo en cuenta que los que se encuentran en Uruguay tienden a crecer bastante despacio, SI ES QUE la flora en tu área es exótica y pobre en cuanto a la producción de frutas, UN BUEN GAJO DE NARANJA servirá para invitarlos a quedarse en tu zona, ¡hasta que tus árboles jóvenes crezcan lo suficiente como para alimentar la avifauna local!

HEY! What's up, 💚💛?
You have no idea how happy it made me, the fact that I've returned to the local TV studio! My most sincere apologies to my Uruguayan compatriots of the flock for the wait. I had to be as patient as I could be, to wait for both the local situation with the virus to cool down, as well as for both my "anti-rona" shots to synchronize with my metabolism (*15 days of preventive lockdown per-shot*). However, there's just no way I could abandon that space, since it's one of my greatest privileges, because of the value it has FOR CONSERVATION through EDUCATION.
Still, I'm no genius, but only a simp animal-Lad that needs to share his passion with everyone. This is why I make this post to celebrate my return to the Uruguayan Television, to celebrate the return of my wildlife-full adventures, and to thank the TV channel of , the show of and the National Museum of Natural History (), for all the patience, the support and the love towards me and my message for humanity!

¡HEY! ¿Qué se cuenta la, 💚💛?
¡No tienen idea de lo feliz que me hizo el hecho de haber regresado al estudio de TV local! Mis más sinceras disculpas a mis compatriotas Uruguayos de la bandada por la espera. Tuve que ser lo más paciente posible, para esperar tanto la que situación local con el virus se enfríe, como a que ambas dosis "anti-covicho" se sincronizaran con mi metabolismo (*una quincena encerrado por cada una*). Sin embargo, no hay ninguna manera de que pueda abandonar ese espacio, ya que es uno de mis mayores privilegios, debido al valor que tiene PARA LA CONSERVACIÓN a través de la EDUCACIÓN.
Aún así, yo no soy ningún "genio", solo soy un simple pibe BICHERO que necesita compartir su pasión con todos. ¡Es por eso mismo que hago este post para celebrar mi regreso a la Televisión, el regreso de mis aventuras llenas de bichos y para agradecer al , a y al Museo Nacional de Historia Natural (), por toda la paciencia, el apoyo y el amor hacia mi persona y mi mensaje para la humanidad!

Very few species of native birds come close to the Guira cuckoo (Guira guira) when it comes to THE STRENGTH OF THE BONDS. A bird that it's in the same family as the Common cuckoo, which lays his eggs in the nests of other birds in Europe, and the Roadrunners from North and Central America, which hunt for small animals on the ground. However, this bird it's so unique, genetically, physically and psychologically speaking that, not only it's the only member of it's genus, but it's almost certainly the most SOCIAL species of cuckoo on the planet. You name it: Huddling on tree branches and sunbathing together on the cold winter mornings, mutual preening, even "putting all eggs in the same basket" (*LITERALLY*) by incubating all the eggs and raising all the chicks in a single nest that it's built and shared by the entire flock, THEY DO IT.
These predators, which feed on anything small, from grubs to the eggs & chicks from other birds, live in groups that can number from 5 to 20 birds which look more like FAMILIES than just simple flocks.

Muy pocas especies de aves nativas se acercan al Pirincho (Guira guira) en cuanto a LA FUERZA EN LOS VÍNCULOS. Un ave que pertenece a la misma familia que el Cuco común, que pone sus huevos en los nidos de otras aves en Europa y al Correcaminos de América del Norte y Central, que caza animales pequeños en el suelo. Sin embargo, esta ave es tan única, genética, física y psicológicamente hablando que no solo es el único miembro de su género, sino que es casi con certeza la especie de cuco MÁS SOCIAL del planeta. Lo que sea: acurrucarse en las ramas de los árboles y tomar el sol juntos en las frías mañanas de invierno, acicalamiento mutuo, incluso "poner todos los huevos en la misma canasta" (*LITERALMENTE*) al incubar los huevos y criar a todos los pichones en un único nido que es construido y compartido por toda la bandada, ELLOS LO HACEN.
Estos predadores, que se alimentan de cualquier cosa pequeña, desde larvas hasta huevos y polluelos, viven en grupos de 5 a 20 aves los cuales recuerdan más a FAMILIAS que a simples bandadas.

When it comes to Insects, my amount of knowledge about them is embarrassingly small...but there are a couple of species that have such remarkable survival strategies that caught my attention.
For example, the South American sub-species of what it's possibly, the most famous butterfly in North America: The Southern Monarch (Danaus erippus). A nectar-specialist that lays his eggs, on particular species of plants which are almost always VERY TOXIC. So when the caterpillars hatch, they spend their lives GORGING on leaves and absorbing their toxic substances into their own bodies. After Metamorphosis, they are so unedible, yet SO FRAGILE, that a simple scratch from a predator can deliver A FATAL WOUND. So their one and only line of defense (*apart from their ability to fly, of course*), is their Aposematic colors, which warns their potential predators, of the toxins within them.

(🇪🇦): Cuando se trata de insectos, mi cantidad de conocimiento sobre ellos es vergonzosamente pequeña...pero hay un par de especies que tienen estrategias de supervivencia tan notables que me llamaron la atención.
Por ejemplo, la subespecie sudamericana de la que posiblemente sea, la mariposa más famosa de América del Norte: la Monarca del Sur (Danaus erippus). Un especialista en néctar que pone sus huevos, sobre determinadas especies de plantas que casi siempre son MUY TÓXICAS. Entonces, cuando las orugas eclosionan, pasan sus vidas ATIBORRANDOSE de hojas y absorbiendo las sustancias tóxicas de las mismas, en sus propios cuerpos. Después de la Metamorfosis, son tan incomestibles, y al mismo tiempo, TAN FRÁGILES, que un simple rasguño de un depredador puede provocar UNA HERIDA MORTAL. Entonces, su única línea de defensa (*aparte de su habilidad para volar, por supuesto*) son sus colores Aposemáticos, los cuales advierten a sus depredadores potenciales de las toxinas que contienen.
