Yesterday was my mom's birthday — and since she spent most of my childhood on Little League sidelines cheering me on, going to a game felt like the right way to celebrate her.

Our friend's son was playing in the coaches' pitch division championship for Zionsville Little League at Lions Park. The MudCats. We grabbed a spot along the fence and cheered. I grabbed my camera too, because of course I did.

That kid standing at shortstop, completely locked in — I've been that kid. My mom watched me be that kid. Some things don't change.

If you have a little leaguer this season and want photos that are actually worth keeping, I'd love to show up to a game.

Check out my little league photo at the end!

Downtown Zionsville keeps showing up for me. The brick street. The mural. The storefronts. The light. It just works.

Ved grew up here. He just graduated, and come fall he’ll be at Purdue studying engineering. We spent a morning moving through downtown — cap and gown at the mural, relaxed on the porch steps, dressed down on the brick street — and ended up with a full set of photos that covers every moment of this chapter.

The graduation portraits for the family. The clean, natural headshots he’ll actually use. All of it, in the town he grew up in.

That’s what a good location does. It roots a photo in a real place, at a real moment. And downtown Zionsville does that better than almost anywhere I shoot.

If you have a senior this year — let’s get together.

A call the night before and a yes led to one of the nicest evenings I've had behind the camera.

I had the honor of photographing the book release celebration for Toyi Rodriguez — Carmel-based author of Global Citizen: A Cultural and Transformative Journey to Thrive Abroad, a 2025 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year finalist. A room full of people who showed up because they genuinely believe in her and what she's built.

And then the evening kept going — back to her home, with her closest friends, glasses raised and laughter filling the room. The kind of celebration that doesn't make it into the program but absolutely deserves to be documented.

This is why I do what I do. The public moments and the private ones. The podium and the toast.

If you have something you're excited about celebrating, let's talk.

Here's the thing about senior photos for guys — they don't hate photos. They hate awkward photos. Get the right crew together and suddenly everyone's laughing, giving each other a hard time, and making memories that actually look like memories.

These three were close to graduation when we finally made it happen. And I'll tell you what — timing didn't matter one bit. The photos turned out incredible.

If you've been putting off booking your senior session (or your son has 😅) — there's still time. There's always time.

If you've ever looked at your outdoor family photos and thought "why does everyone look washed out" — here's the answer: timing.

The worst time to take photos outside in Indiana is between 10am and 4pm. The sun is directly overhead, the light is harsh, and it creates unflattering shadows on everyone's faces. It doesn't matter how good your camera is. That light is working against you.

The best time is the hour before sunset. Photographers call it golden hour, and it's exactly what it sounds like — warm, soft, directional light that makes everyone look like the best version of themselves. In central Indiana right now, that window is roughly 7:00 to 8:00pm.

A few other things that actually matter for outdoor photos:
Overcast days are underrated. A thin layer of clouds acts like a giant softbox. Even lighting, no squinting, no harsh shadows. If you're planning a family photo and the forecast shows "partly cloudy," don't reschedule.

Shade beats direct sun every time. If it's midday and you need a photo, find open shade — the shadow side of a building, under a tree with filtered light. Never put people in direct sunlight if you can avoid it.

Horizontal light beats vertical light. Early morning and late evening, the sun is low and comes at you sideways. That's what creates dimension in a photo. Overhead light flattens everything.

If you're looking for local photography, right here in your community, who understands these tricks, I'd love to help you out!

If the thought of getting a new headshot makes you feel a bit uneasy, you aren't alone. Most people feel a sense of pressure when they step in front of a camera, but the secret to a relaxed, authentic portrait is all in the preparation.

When you feel prepared, your posture relaxes and your expression becomes natural. From choosing the right mid-tone colors to staying hydrated for 48 hours prior, small steps make a significant difference in the final result.

I’ve published a new guide on the blog to walk you through exactly how to prepare for your session in Zionsville. My goal is to handle the technical details so you can simply show up as your best self.

Is your family’s history sitting in a shoebox?

Most of us have a collection of old 35mm slides, negatives, or prints tucked away in the attic or basement. While they feel safe there, they are actually at risk of fading or even mold damage over time.

I recently worked on a local collection where we found amazing moments that hadn't been seen in decades! One of my favorite parts of being a Zionsville photographer is helping neighbors bring these "lost" memories back to life with high-resolution scanning.

Why choose local?
✅ Your photos never go in the mail—they stay right here in Zionsville.
✅ Every image is hand-scanned and color-corrected.
✅ Pricing starts at just $0.35 per image.

Don't wait until the damage is permanent. Let's get those memories onto your phone and TV where you can actually enjoy them!
