The 73% number comes from a Cygnal poll of likely 2026 midterm voters with a sample of 1,004 people. The question asked whether individuals who entered the U.S. without legal permission broke the law, and 73% answered yes. That said, the post still oversimplifies immigration law. Illegal entry can be a crime, but many undocumented people did not enter illegally and instead overstayed a visa, which is generally treated as a civil immigration violation.
It is possible to support law enforcement while also expecting the government to follow the law, respect due process, and recognize important legal distinctions instead of reducing a complex issue to a slogan.
