Well fam, we finally did it. We made it into Yosemite in February while Horsetail Falls had water moving over it!
If you aren’t familiar with the Firefall in Yosemite National Park, let me tell you about it!
This sporadic waterfall exists on the eastern face of El Capitan in Yosemite Valley. Every year it has the potential to play a part in a very cool natural phenomenon! From mid-late February the winter sun sets in just the right location to illuminate the water falling on this canyon wall. Of course you’ll need a few other things to line up perfectly.
- You’ll need a solid snowpack to melt and feed the waterfall.
- You’ll need a clear day and no cloud obstructions.
- Depending on when you visit you might need a reservation to even get in the park in February
If you’re fortunate enough to line all of these needs up you’ll be treated to a natural showing of orange and pink hues cascading hundreds of feet to the valley floor!
