I've watched Hayden grow up through FFA. He was one of my senior photography clients, and I got to help coach and prepare his state officer team through their year of service.

It was a joy watching Hayden step into his role as a state officer. He took advantage of every opportunity, pushed himself out of his own comfort zone, and allowed himself to take risks, be vulnerable, and show his more light-hearted side.

I don't know that I've met an officer more grateful for the whole experience or watched one work so hard to soak in every moment.

Being there last night when he got the letter saying he was advancing to the next round of interviews was a privilege. I'm so thankful the committee saw what I see in this young man - kindness, intelligence, integrity, work ethic, the most hilarious if understated sense of humor, and a true love of this organization.

He would make a tremendous national officer because he is just a tremendous human being.

Congratulations Hayden. Th smile says it all.

For years, I’ve watched Reina grow up through her mother’s eyes. I’ve heard the funny stories from junior high and the accounts of high school adventures. But those anecdotes and secondhand observations didn't quite do the young woman standing in front of my camera justice.

I always meet seniors where they are. If they’re awkward and unsure, I work hard to make it a positive experience, hoping they leave thinking, “That wasn’t so bad!”

Then I get a client like Reina. An artsy soul who already has ideas about the images she wants and the poses she likes. Someone who brings her own creativity to the session, and my job is partly to recognize that and give it room and get out of the way.

As the photographer, it can be hard relinquishing my idea of what a session should be and instead focus on hearing what the client is telling me they want and bringing that to life. But when I can get out of my own way and just focus on collaborating instead of directing...the results make my heart soar.

I never presume to know a senior's whole story or personality after a session or two.

But in those moments I saw someone willing to trust her own ideas and tell me what she wanted. Someone who might not know exactly what she wants to be or where life will take her, but who seems prepared to take charge of her life and make her own place in the world.

This summer, I worked on some pet photography skills. In many ways, it's harder and more exhausting than working with people. But when I get tipped with kisses and slobber from pets, I'm less grossed out.

I'll be opening up some more pet sessions soon, so if you'd love a mini-session with your bestest boi, be on the lookout.

I have a mouse problem.

I drug my family to Walmart today on our collective day off to buy a computer mouse. Mine decided this was the week to act up and last night it just full on quit working.

Shortly after we got home and I plugged the new mouse in, we had an Amazon package delivered.

It was a really cool phone holder that attaches to my pistol grip stand...and a mouse. I have zero recollection of ordering said mouse. It's like it just magically appeared at my doorstep.

ADHD? Perimenopause? School photo season? Or am I just losing my mind the old fashioned way.

MODEL CALL!

I found a fun new location I want to try out. Think beautiful tree-lined street, ala a Southern plantation. It's in Scottsbluff. I'd like to do some test shots there to see if it photographs as beautifully as I think it might.

Anyone senior/high schools girls out there up for a complimentary 20 minute mini-session? You'd keep your favorite 5 photos from the session in exchange for modeling and the use of your images for marketing.

Would be a great location for a floofy dress, sundress, etc. Must be on a weeknight, about an hour before sunset. Model must actually enjoy having their photo taken and be willing to be photographed with flash.
