https://youtu.be/-sIXUbRFogQ ⇠ This is how I simplify a chaotic scene by zeroing in on either one flower or a cluster of flowers, isolating a bloom in the foreground and moving position to allow distracting branches and flowers to fade out in the background. Sometimes, I like to use flowers in the foreground to frame the subject in the distance. And, sometimes I love to play with my settings to use light and shadow - creating a dark background. I like to experiment and use the sky for backlighting or even light under a tree canopy. Usually I focus on the stamens in the center of the flower and let the rest fall out of focus where it may.

In this video, I experiment with editing a few photos in Photoshop with a moody look.

https://youtu.be/xjs-bS-0eIk Years ago, when these ‘Rose of Sharon’ were blooming at the same time of year as it is now, (filmed in September 2020) I photographed a hummingbird for the first time, and ever since then, I wanted to return to the same place to try again. On this day I find birds, flowers, an insect wing, and other surprises to photograph.
