It’s interesting, how much our artistic expression may change- or be forced to change- at times. It’s okay to give ourselves space for that. I’m learning to lean into it.

Enjoy my current project- needle felting, based on a combination of memories and wishful photography locations. The base 2D landscape image is pretty much done but 3D animals are in progress. Any suggestions or ideas to add?

“I itch to move, wander, my mind craves more. Memories of hours and days, months and years living immersed in little moments exploring push to the forefront. Woodpeckers knock, welcoming friends to the newly built pine tree hideout. Bluejays dart in, and with squirrels fight over the old dry corn and acorns in the corner. It’s safe inside the warmth of the tree hallow.”

One of the things I love most about photography are the people I meet and stories I hear throughout our small community.

Recently I met a talented home baker and owner of Alma’s Concheria at our new farmers market. The love and heritage she shares in each product is evident and Alma herself is so kind.

I’m honored to share a small imagery sampling ahead of time with each of you. Unfortunately my children may have also stolen the hibiscus very quickly for themselves, so there are not any to reach for through your screen. That’s what I get for requesting staging assistance 🤣

I have always been fascinated by the intricate details and delicious textures found in the world around us, from nature to food. Recently, I had the opportunity to delve into a delectable moment of chocolate and caramel detail, and the experience was nothing short of magical.

Each element offers unique appeal from the smooth, velvety richness of chocolate to the soft, golden allure of caramel, with some crunchy cookie thrown in. The way light dances off the glossy surface of a perfectly tempered chocolate bar or the mesmerizing swirls created as caramel cascades over a dessert are moments I live to capture.

Beyond aesthetics, there's a story behind every chocolate truffle and caramel drizzle. It's the craftsmanship of chocolatiers and confectioners, the passion poured into each creation, that truly makes these treats come alive.

I aim to showcase the beauty of chocolate and caramel and celebrate the artistry and dedication that goes into their making. Whether it's capturing the excitement of a new chocolate creation or the nostalgia of a classic confection, I am constantly inspired by the endless possibilities these ingredients offer.

There are some new friends and I realize that many of you may not know me! Grab a cup of coffee and cozy in for a minute.

I am Marika (pronounced Ma-ree-ka, or "Eureka! I found you!") and the force behind Adaptive and Joyful Photography. While based in Wylie, Texas, I love to travel and am frequently throughout Dallas-Fort Worth and further for clients!

From capturing the little moments for families in between the chaos to building your brand and cheering as you soar, I'm here for you! It is my privilege to create beautiful artwork, meet your family or business where you are, and provide the best experience for you.

When I am not creating heirloom-quality artwork, I can be found advocating for medical needs and accessibility, reading with my children, listening to another podcast, or up to my elbows in dirt and plants. I'm a storyteller, teacher (by education and nature), and an animal lover. I'm a sucker for hot chocolate with cinnamon and some finger paint, not necessarily together. I am a mom to three amazing kiddos here and one in our hearts.

What does adaptive photography mean? It simply means that I adjust the pieces within photography to fit the needs of both myself and my clients. Often this is seen in adapting to a disability, but can also include something like subtly adding additional time for a family to process an unexpected emotion. Each day is another opportunity to love and bless someone, and that means meeting you right where you are.

Did you know that many families never have a professional together due to medical or disability needs, and often even limited phone images? I want to change this! Memories together are crucial and I can help share your stories for generations.

Session experience locations are wheelchair accessible and lighting is natural and photosensitive friendly. ASL interpreters or speech to text and tactile prints are available, and I am happy to modify for differing needs or desires as expressed.
