Capturing Joy: Marjorie’s Unforgettable Quinceañera in Newton, MA

There is something truly magic about a Quinceañera. It is so much more than a 15th birthday party. It is a real milestone filled with deep traditions, whole families coming together, and pure, unfiltered joy.

Last summer, I had the honor of photographing Marjorie’s Quinceañera right in Newton, Massachusetts. From the moment the day started, you could feel the energy in the air. Marjorie looked like a fairytale princess in her blush pink ballgown, complete with a horse drawn carriage, before switching into a lively fringe dress to tear up the dance floor.

And let me tell you, this whole party came ready to dance! Marjorie’s love for dancing set the tone for the entire night. Between the incredible music, the glow sticks, and an incredible spread of authentic Mexican tacos and local delicacies, everyone was smiling from ear to ear.

As a photographer, nights like this remind me why I do what I do.

Years down the road, the food will be a distant memory and the party music will fade. But when Marjorie opens her photo album, she will not just see how beautiful she looked. She will actually feel the exact energy of that room. She will remember the roar of her family cheering, the sparkle of her crown, and the pure excitement of dancing until her feet hurt alongside the people who love her most.

There is a moment right after a couple is announced as partners for life, where they walk back down the aisle and the whole world just fades away. Look at the pure, unfiltered joy on Alicia and Nick’s faces in that first photo, that is exactly what a wedding day feels like. ❤️

I had the absolute honor of photographing their stunning garden wedding in Newton, MA. From the quiet morning laughs with Alicia and her bridesmaids to Nick adjusting his floral tie in the garden, every single detail felt so intentional and full of life.

They held a beautiful outdoor ceremony surrounded by massive blooming dogwoods and pink rhododendrons. Later, as the sun went down, everyone moved into a clear top tent lit up by hundreds of warm string lights. But my absolute favorite moment to capture? That quiet, tight embrace they shared on the dance floor under the tent. You can practically feel the exhale of "we did it" through the lens.

As a Boston wedding photographer, people often think my job is just about capturing the big details, the dress hanging on the stone archway, the colorful bouquet, or the venue setup. But the real value of wedding photography is documenting the things you can't plan for.

It’s the candid laugh when your friends lift you up in the morning. It’s the way your partner looks at you when they think no one else is watching. Decades from now, the flowers will be a memory and the dress will be safely packed away, but these photographs will still be right there, letting Alicia and Nick relive the exact emotions of the day they started their forever.

There is a specific moment during a Quinceañera photo session where the initial nerves fade away, and the pure joy of the milestone takes over. For Emy, I got to watch that magic happen right through my lens. ✨

We spent a beautiful afternoon exploring Larz Anderson Park in Brookline, from the classic stone pillars to the quiet spaces by the water. Emy was absolutely glowing in her red and gold gown and can we talk about those custom sparkly sneakers? Pure perfection.

As a Boston wedding and portrait photographer, I get to capture a lot of big milestones. But there is something incredibly sacred about a Quinceañera. It’s a bridge between childhood and the future. The dress will eventually be put away, and the sneakers will get worn out, but these portraits? They become the visual history of a family's love and growth. They are the tangible reminders of who she was at fifteen, frozen in time for her parents, and one day, for her own children to look back on.
